PETER DUMANS It is with great sadness we announce the sudden and untimely passing of Peter at the age of 67. He passed away at his childhood home in St. Vital on November 11, 2017. Peter was preceded in death by his father Jack. He is survived by his son Eric, his mother Mirdza, brother Randy, sister Dianne (Joe), Niece Alison (David and son Benjamin), nephew Glen, and his best friend Jack. As a boy growing up in St.Vital Peter had many adventures at the Seine River, building forts and catching garter snakes. This led to his first business venture, retrieving golf balls from the river with his toes and then selling them to golfers. Although he always had a day job until his retirement two years ago, Peter's life long passion was for his art. Peter was a prolific artist who worked in many mediums and styles. He sculpted, but his true expertise and main focus for many years was his metal work. Peter drew inspiration from the ubiquitous nature of creativity itself. He highly regarded all things creative. In his last few years he painted daily. Through dedication to honing his painting skills he proudly achieved an impressive level of competence in the medium. Peter will live on through his many unique and interesting pieces. Peter was a loving father and a good friend to his only son Eric. He always enjoyed nature and had a special love of trees with a strong curiosity about life. He was always confident in his opinions and never backed down from a debate. Peter was respected for never making compromises in what he stood for. Friends and family are welcome to attend a gathering in Peter's honour at Pulse Gallery in Johnston Terminal at The Forks. The gathering will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter's memory may be made to a Winnipeg animal shelter of your choice. ROCK & ROLL!!!

This is 6 years after Mr. Dumans passing. I'm sorry to hear that he has gone from this world. All condolences to his family. I only recently came to know about him after I purchased an acrylic painting done by Mr. Dumans. I searched his name, as he signed the corner and back of it, to learn more about the Artist and found this Obituary. I also read the many articles that showcased him from Pulse Gallery and Wayne Arthur Gallery, and was pleased to see his other artistic works. I'm very happy I came across "Dance With The Copper Sun" from 2013 and now own one of his excellent paintings. It's a lovely piece that those at the art centre I purchased from said that many gravitated towards. Please know that his artistry lives on forever and gives joy to those who view it. - Posted by: Katie (Fan) on: Jun 28, 2023

My condolences to the Dumans family on the passing of a friend I had for a part of my life. To make this simple I will just iist some of the memories I have of our time together approximately 20 years ago. Here they are in random order and just the things that Peter enjoyed: Blue Cadillac, no air conditioning he did not like it, Robins Donuts on St. Mary's Road every weekday morning for a few smokes and plenty of coffee, golfing early mornings at courses in Winnipeg one during a nasty thunderstorm but Peter was determined to finish, watching him hunt for golf balls in the river on the Windsor Park Golf Course, Metal Art, a born leader. Peter had a love for life and lived it like he did. Peter had a love for people and he showed it to those people. Peter will be missed by this world but will be welcomed warmly into the next. Until we meet again Peter. Mark - Posted by: Mark Penner (Friend) on: Dec 22, 2017

I am happy that I was able to buy one of Peter's art works at his recent show at the Wayne Arthur Gallery, a blue angel fish which is now hanging above my bed. - Posted by: Traute Klein (Fellow Artist) on: Nov 20, 2017

My sincere condolences to Mrs. Dumans and the entire family on the loss of Peter. I remember Peter well. As 13 and 14 y/o childhood friends we lived across the back-lane from each other and attended Glenwood School. I remember well the fun times we had in the 4th Scout Troop (beside Guay Park on St. Mary's Rd.). Peter was indeed adventurous. I remember the fort building and shooting our pellet guns (and bows and arrows) down along the Seine River. I remember Peter jumping off the roof of his garage with a bed sheet as a makeshift parachute. Almost broke is leg. Stubborn? Like a mule sometimes. I remember golfing with him at Windsor G.C. Upset with his poor T-shot leaving his golf ball lying directly behind a tree, Peter, ignoring my suggestion to just move the ball so he didn't hit the tee with his club and break it, swung away at with disgust anyway. It hit the tree square on and came directly back to hit him on the wrist and (I think) broke his wrist (but certainly ended his golf game that day.) I carried his clubs home for him. Another time his game wasn't going so, being a tad upset, he used his putter to tee off on the 18th hole. Well, on hitting the ball, the putter head flew off and both it and his ball ended up in the Seine River. Now he was really upset...lol. He was also a builder. I remember when we both built "bateaux" and took a weekend trip down the La Salle River where we snuck into a farmer's corn field and had a great corn roast that night. Peter got the idea to shoot a duck with his pellet gun but we couldn't cook it up as neither of us knew how to clean a duck...lol. Should have thought of that first I guess. Also, remember diving for golf balls in the Seine River at Windsor G.C. with our friend Ralph McKellar (deceased). Swimming underwater feeling with our hands for golf balls on the bottom, I remember Peter getting bit by either a river rat or a snapping turtle. He was tough tho' as both he and his attacker...lol... survived. He was opinionated that's for sure. I remember seeing a condom down by the Red River one day and Peter argued till he was blue in the face that it wasn't for what I thought it was for but rather doctor's used it on male patients during operations so they (the doctors) didn't accidently get peed on. His authority? His Dad told him and, because he worked at a hospital, he would know so it had to be true. Remember we were only 13/14 at the time and didn't have internet...lol. The stories could go on but Peter was a good guy and we certainly had a lot of fun times together during those couple of years. I am saddened by the news of his passing. We lost touch after grade school and I now regret not having got in contact with him in all the years that have since passed to get together and retell some of our stories. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Doug Wilson (childhood friend) on: Nov 19, 2017
