SAM (SUMIO) NAKAMOTO After a lengthy illness, Sam passed away peacefully at the Tuxedo Villa Extendicare on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. He was predeceased by his parents, Kenji and Yae Nakamoto; his older brother Kiyo and his sister and brother-in-law, Donna and James Leonard St. Germain. He is survived by his loving wife Sue Nakamoto; his son Jeffrey (wife Doris Ammann Nakamoto); daughter Joan (sweetheart Richard Lane); as well as his brother Ray Nakamoto and wife Fumiko; his nieces and nephews, Donna (husband Quinton Eagle) and Roy Nakamoto, Gene and Mary Frances St. Germain and Beverly Phelan (husband Michael) and their son Christopher. Sam was born in Port Hammond, BC on January 2, 1929. He was an avid sports fan, who loved golf, baseball, tennis, hockey and football. He attended and played in many athletic events and games. His favourite singer was Nat King Cole. Sam worked as a cook in the Japanese Imperial Navy in his early twenties, married Sue Yamamoto in 1953, moved to Winnipeg, Canada in 1956, worked for the Consulate General of Japan for many years, and then worked as an Administrator for Macleod-Steadman until his retirement. He was a very loving and attentive father, always encouraging his children to be the best they could be, and was well known for his cheerful, outgoing, fun loving and caring personality. He seemed to know everyone. He also loved the outdoors, being in the sun, and travelling. He had an amazing work ethic and high moral standards. He will be missed by all who knew him. A private family interment has been held. In lieu of flowers, he requested that donations be made to Tuxedo Villa Extendicare, 2060 Corydon Ave., Winnipeg R3P 0N3.   • I remember Sam when I worked at the Winnipeg Tribune and the Consulate of Japan was in the same building . He was a pleasant and kind man with a smile on his face everytime I saw him .
