WILLIAM ELMER BAUER February 17, 1932 - November 18, 2017 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William E. Bauer at the age of 85 years. William leaves behind the love of his life Doreen (nee Leighton), his three children John (Jackie), Bill (Debbie), Janice (Don), six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. William was predeceased by his parents, John and Alvina (nee Deitz), his siblings Julia, John, Dorothy, Barbara, Katherine, Earl and Lloyd. He is survived by his sisters, Pearl and Aileen. As a young man William began his career at the Winnipeg Hydro and after 37 years of public service he retired. William and Doreen enjoyed many years at their Twin Beach cottage with their children and grandchildren. The cottage inspired many different events including the family's version of the Gong Show. They were also the hosts for many years for the Bauer-ee Blitz, a yearly lawn dart tournament. William and Doreen enjoyed travelling throughout the USA with his brothers and sisters. Dad was a hard worker and a generous man. In his spare time Dad coached hockey for many years at East Elmwood C.C. He was also an avid curler, playing on a family team out of Rossmere. Dad enjoyed helping his family with any projects that needed his expertise from building cottages and rec rooms, to plumbing or his electrical prowess. Dad also loved a good joke and was a bit of a prankster himself. Dad spent many mornings as a walker at the Kildonan Place mall. He immensely enjoyed having coffee with his old buddies and always spoke highly of them. Dad, you will always be with us. We love you and miss you. See you on the other side. As per Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. Our family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to Dr. C. Moltzan, Cancer care staff (St. Boniface Hospital) and Palliative Care Staff, all of who provided Dad with excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dads name to CancerCare Manitoba, to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Blood services.

  • Hey Dad. Its been 4 years plus since you left us. You are still my best friend. Thank you for teaching me the important things in life. We had a ton of laughs and hard work building cabins and its place in the country. Had too many projects too list. I forgot to mention Dr. Alan Kimelman along with the other medical people. He is an awesome, caring, knowledgeable doctor. And all around great guy. Miss you Dad. Love u Pop - Posted by: John (Son) on: Mar 22, 2022

  • We are so very sad that we have lost Uncle Bill, an uncle like no other to Jim, Lisa and myself. We have the most wonderful memories of our times with him and we feel very fortunate to have these memories because many do not. We talk about Twin Lakes and all the good times we had from the time the kids were infants. We also had many great Christmases on McCalman with our cousins, etc. Uncle Bill was a generous, caring man who took care of everyone he loved. We will miss him deeply each and every day. I know we will meet him on the other side one day and I know he will always watch over us always. As Lisa said "heaven got an amazing angel". You will always be in our thoughts and prayers Auntie Doreen and family. We love you very much. Till we meet again Uncle Bill. Judy - Posted by: Judy Pauls (Niece) on: Nov 25, 2017

  • The past few days have been filled with stories and memories of such great times with my dad. We have reminisced about dad’s coaching days at East Elmwood Communty Club, how much he enjoyed meeting his friends in the mornings at KP, his love of our family celebrations especially Christmas, and of course, great times at Twin Lakes Beach. I take comfort in knowing my dad touched the lives of so many people, young and old alike. The care and compassion from the medical community was second to none. We were blessed to have had such wonderful people supporting us these past few years. Cheers Pop! Safe journey xo - Posted by: Jan (Daughter ) on: Nov 23, 2017
