Date of Passing: Nov 11, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN (KADENIUK) BUCKLEY Helen passed away at age 93 on Remembrance Day in Kinsmen Lodge, Surrey, B.C., where she received the highest quality care. Her loving niece Marlene Varga was with her. Marlene's grandson Dalton, who was adored by Helen, was also there to hold her hand. Her Surrey family, Marlene's daughters, Charmaine and Anna-Lee and their daughters, Arabella and Ava, were constantly there for Helen. The family wishes to thank Bill Flostrand for all his help. Helen's niece Cheryl Murray travelled from Winnipeg to spend time with her in July. We shared wonderful moments, especially when Anna-Lee's husband Brent McKill put together a showing in Helen's room of old family photo slides. Helen lived in Winnipeg on Barber Street prior to her marrying William Yates Buckley in 1947. They moved to B.C. and he passed away in 1984. They enjoyed travelling to Mexico, California and camping on Vancouver Island. She longed to return to Winnipeg. The family farm was in Dallas, Manitoba. She and her beloved Uncle Peter Krywenky shared many memories of a lifetime together before he passed away in 2015. She also had many Winnipeg friendships for over 50 years and was always in touch with her Winnipeg family, Cheryl's daughter Angie and grandsons Samuel and Adam. Helen was very proud of her art. As a young girl she won First Place for her floral drawing in a Sutherland Mission art competition. In 1939, she also received a 90% grading in a U.S.A. national drawing contest. She had fond memories of Sparling Camp in Gimli. During the Second World War, she danced with the soldiers in the Eaton's annex. Later in Vancouver, she worked at the food bank and was summoned to appear as a juror in 2002. She had five sisters, only Jenny Miller remains in Oregon, U.S.A. with her family. We have lost someone who was very generous to her family and had a great sense of humour. Helen is now resting at Boal Memorial Gardens in Vancouver.
