ROMEO CHARLES LEVESQUE It is with deep sadness that our family announces the death of Romeo on November 13, 2017. He is survived by his wife Thelma, his daughters Barbara "Elizabeth" Levesque (Gordon) and Nancy Jonatschick (Guy) along with his grandchildren, Jesse, Paddy, Pasel and Ryan and great grandchildren as well as a special nephew Gilbert Levesque. He was predeceased by all nine of his siblings. Romeo's life began in a loving, large, francophone family in Vassar, Manitoba on January 31, 1927 and like many of his generation, he was full of promise and potential. The Great Depression of 1929 however left its mark, forcing many young people to abandon an education for a job. Our dad was no exception, and so at 15 he left school and moved to Winnipeg where he found a job at Eatons. It was here that the delivery "boy" met the parcel "girl" and they married in 1946. Romeo and Thelma would go on to celebrate over 71 years together. They lived together, independently supporting each other until the last few months. Romeo had a keen mind and was a great problem solver. He was able to design, build, or repair anything. Romeo's greatest joy however was his family and we remember him rocking babies, watching his grandsons play hockey, attending school Christmas concerts and chauffeuring his grandchildren. He loved them all. He inspired us with his values of humility, kindness and a strong work ethic. He was athletic and played baseball for many years and was a master curler, "skipping" many teams to victory. Retiring from the Winnipeg School Division meant that Romeo could curl five days a week out of the St. Vital and Fort Garry Curling Clubs. He was, as well, a great dancer and he and Thelma spent many a Saturday night on the dance floor. Our dad's positive attitude and appreciation for all he had, will continue to inspire us. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Romeo's name to a charity of your choice and condolences may be left at Cropo.com. There will be no service at Romeo's request.
