Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY ELAINE BAILER April 13, 1949 - November 27, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, partner and friend, Dorothy Bailer, on Monday, November 27, 2017, at the Health Sciences Centre. She left us too quickly but are comforted to know that she is now at peace. She was predeceased by her father and mother, William and Marie Sweet; brother Lawrence; sisters Joan and Patricia; and nephew Jeff. Left to cherish her memory are her partner of 30+ years Bill Strong; son Paul; sisters Debbie (Larry), Sharon (Brian), Beverly (Paul); grandson Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Dorothy was born on April 13, 1949, and spent her early years on the farm in Ostenfeld, MB, where she worked hard with her family. After completing high school, she went to Winnipeg to work where she performed various administrative jobs, she was a hard, conscientious worker at anything she did and ended her career at Autoline where she retired after 27 years. Dorothy enjoyed working in the yard which she took great pride in and loved tending to her flowers in the garden. She enjoyed a good cup of coffee and spent many fond trips with her life partner Bill at the Shooting Star (her favourite spot) or South Beach and Club Regent Casino. Her greatest pride was becoming a Grandma. Her grandson Jackson was the light of her life whom she loved dearly. She could always be found quietly cheering him on at all his sporting events and never missed a concert or Grandparents Day. She loved babysitting him and having him over for visits to spoil him rotten, if there was a smile on her face it was usually because he was around. Family was important to her and she could always be found at an arena or ball field cheering on her nieces, nephews and families in all they did. She was a wonderful grandmother, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be sadly missed, especially by her son Paul. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., on Monday, December 4, at 2:00 p.m., with viewing at 1:30 p.m. prior to service. Interment will follow after the service. Reception to follow at the Transcona Legion, 117 Regent Ave. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at the Health Sciences Centre on the 4th floor wing, D Unit, for their care and compassion during Dorothy's last days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
