NIKOLAUS LUKAS December 5, 1925 - November 29, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nikolaus Lukas on November 29 - a week shy of his 92nd birthday. Left to celebrate his memory are his children Doris Jordan, Anton, Kathleen, Robert (Heather), son-in-law Robert Weiser, and his beloved grandchildren Paul and Nicole Jordan, Erin and Sean Pasemko, Matthew and Lindsay Weiser, Lynea and Braeden Lukas, and Brenden and Lana Shumka. He was predeceased by his wife Elisabeth, and daughter Dr. Susan Lukas. He is survived by his sisters Maria Lamovsek, Ana Rigler, Mathilde (Karl) Eberle, and Angela (Gunter) Sponagel, along with many nieces, nephews and other family members. Nick was born in Krog, Slovenia where he apprenticed in the greenhouse business. In search of adventure, he came to Canada in 1948. Nick and Elisabeth (nee Schoenhofer) married on January 17, 1953 and together built a family business they loved, running Lukas Greenhouses for 60 years. After Elisabeth's death in 2014, Nick continued to run the greenhouses on his own until this year, when his health would no longer permit him. Retirement was never an option he considered because this is what he truly loved doing. Nick was known for his great knowledge of plants and his love of animals. He was the animal whisperer! Nick loved watching wrestling and his Lotto 649 tickets. He was always smiling, active, and loved life. His family and providing for them, were very important to him. He was extremely hard working and could fix anything and everything. Cremation has taken place with a celebration of his life planned for December 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue. Rest in Peace Dad. We will miss you and you will be forever in our hearts.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Goodbye Dad. Your life's journey is now over and I hope you have found Peace. These last few months were very difficult for you. You had almost 92 years on this Earth and were able to live your life on your own terms doing what you loved doing most. Some of your plants were so unique and amazing. We will miss you and your sense of humour and so will all your animal friends. Thank you for everything. Say "Hi" to Mom and Susan. You are now together forever. God bless you all. • Very sad to hear of the passing of Uncle Nick. I remember as a child playing and working with Oma and Opa in the greenhouses that Nick took great pride in. Family deaths are always a shock yet an opportunity to celebrate the good times and memories - I'm sure Uncle Nick and his family have many. Condolences from Saskatoon from Carol, Madison and myself.
