LYNDON ALFRED JARVIS 1927 - 2017 On Monday, December 4, 2017, Lyn Jarvis passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 90. He would tell you that he had a good life. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Joyce, and three daughters, Shelley Turnbull (Gary), Gayle Jarvis and Lynda Long (Mitch). Also sad to see him go are grandchildren Megan Turnbull (Jon), Derek Turnbull, Claire Turnbull (Finley), Matthew Long and Martin Long. Lyn was predeceased by his brother Mel and Mel's wife Margaret. Lyn was born on August 6, 1927 to Margaret and Alfred Jarvis, who had emigrated from Wales in 1926. He lived on Toronto Street in Winnipeg until Lyn and Joyce were married. Lyn was a true handyman and spent many hours in his workshop building and fixing things. His cars were another passion and he kept them in mint condition. He was never without a small project and later in life he became a prolific and skilled wood carver. He loved to dance. Lyn and Joyce square danced and round danced and had great fun on camping caravans to jamborees. Playing Bridge was another favourite pastime, as was playing the harmonica. For almost two decades, Dad could be seen every week playing pool at Triple B's with Gayle and Norma or with his brother Mel. Though his skill never waned, his strength and energy finally did. Until the very end, Dad loved food and looked forward to something in every meal. It became a great topic of conversation and he savoured every bite. He enjoyed making soups every week for years after he retired. Dad was a loyal employee of the Manitoba Telephone System for 42 years, starting at the age of 16. He never complained once about having to go to work. Lyn was a gentle and caring man with a sharp sense of humour and wit. His world revolved around his family. He and Mom inspired us with their ability to make the best of whatever life dealt and to see the humour at every opportunity. There will be a private family celebration of his life to recognize his passing.
