ALFRED EDWARD STANTON January 11, 1921 - December 3, 2017 Born in Manchester, Dad immigrated to Toronto in 1927. At 20 years old, Dad enlisted in the Air Force. He met his future wife Eileen at a dance, and they married in 1942. Dad attended the University of Manitoba, where he and Eileen lived on campus. There he served as mayor of "Vets Village". He graduated with honours in 1949 with a degree in commerce. He was employed by Pittsburgh Paint and Glass for 35 years, starting on the order desk and retiring as Vice-President. Mom and Dad lived in Winnipeg most of their lives, except for a few years in each of Sarnia, Montreal, and Toronto. The Anglican Church was an important part of their lives. Dancing (ballroom, Scottish and English), travel, reading, and community service were lifetime passions. Dad served in a variety of organizations including the Canadian Military Reserves, the Anglican Church, the St. James School Board, Kiwanis (55 years), the Winnipeg Construction Association (lifetime member), the Wartime Pilots and Observers Association, the St. James Legion, the Canadian Western Bank, and the Manitoba Labour Board. However, his primary interest was his wife and four daughters. Ed was predeceased by Eileen, his wife of 72 years, his eldest daughter Jan and his sons-in-law, David Christensen and Dave Kellendonk. He will be lovingly remembered by Jo Kellendonk, Sue (Rod Thorleifson), Sandy (Gil Vermette) as well as his nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Dad was a true gentleman who enjoyed life fully. He was a man of diverse interests, and a great story teller. He will also be remembered as the man who always wore a tie. Thanks to all who cared so well for Dad. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 10 at 1:30 p.m. at St. George's Anglican Church, 168 Wilton St., Winnipeg, MB.
