Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILLICENT MAY HANSEN July 25, 1931 - December 8, 2017 Our mother, Millicent, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2017 in Calgary, Alberta with family by her side. Her struggles with dementia are finally over. She leaves to mourn her passing, Brett and Diane, Jo Ann and Ralph, and Shannon and John. Also left behind are her grandchildren, Lee, Brett, Laura, Jonathan and Matthew. Also mourning her loss are her sisters, Connie Ryan, Bernice Graham and members of the Bonner and Hansen clans in Canada and New Zealand. She was predeceased by her husband Alen in 2014, and son Robert in 1976. Mom was born and raised in Birtle, Manitoba, continuing on to Normal School in Winnipeg where she achieved her teaching degree. She then went on to teach in various small towns on the prairies. Mom and Dad met when he was in the Birtle area flying crop dusters. Married in 1955, and after a brief time in Brandon, Manitoba, they planted their roots in Charleswood in Winnipeg, where they raised their four kids. As the kids grew up, she returned to teaching. After retirement from teaching, she worked for several years at Eaton's in Polo Park. After the passing of Dad in 2014, Mom moved out to Calgary, Alberta to be closer to her children. Mom endured many challenges in Calgary, and was able to overcome most of them. She was one tough broad! Mom loved her family and friends the most. We cannot fail to mention her other loves: a Labatt's Stubby before dinner, and her lifelong friend Mr. Matinee. Each of us have special memories of Mom that we will cherish: Mom running a kindergarten in our basement, sleeping at the end of our beds when we were sick as children (mostly at Christmas) and enjoying a challenging crossword puzzle, to name a few. At Mom's request there will be no formal service.
