SHIRLEY GUDRIDUR GRACEFFO (nee DAVIDSON) It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Shirley Gudridur Graceffo who passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours on Monday, December 11, 2017 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Shirley is survived by her children Leonard (Shelley) and Joanne; sister Norma Ashdown; sister in law Helen Graceffo; nephews Stephen, Shane, Bradley and Darren (Sandi); nieces Lisa (Cordell), Janice (Chris), Deanna (Orest), Angela, Andrea (Franklin), Cheryl and Cindy; special family friend George Weise, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her late husband Guiseppe (Joe) Giovanni Graceffo; parents, Njall and Edna (Abtosway) Davidson; brother Keith Davidson; sister Francess (Don) Chrest. Mom was also predeceased by her late friend Sylvia Hill. Mom grew up in St.James on Ferry Road making memories with her many cousins and friends after living in her early years in Vidar, Manitoba. After graduating Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, she worked for Standard Aero Engines, Air Canada where she met Dad, Krevco and the University of Manitoba. Mom had a very active life of art, travel, public speaking, continuing education and fine restaurants! She loved her art classes with the late Dora Humphreys at Riverview C.C. Mom travelled Europe including a lovely Mother's Day trip by her daughter Joanne to Iceland to see her heritage and a wonderful trip with her kids to Hawaii for a Toastmistress convention as a former President of Toastmistress here in Winnipeg! Mom was also a member of Y Neighbors and The Manitoba Historical Society enjoying their outings immensely. She attended family weddings and reunions across Canada and was a proud member of the Sucker Creek First Nation Band on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. For many years she enjoyed an annual get together with her bridesmaids in Montreal! Shirley was a dedicated Mother and Aunt who advocated and participated fully in the lives of those she loved. Later in life she pursued courses in Advertising Art at Red River C.C., then after retirement, her Bachelor of Arts with an English major at the University of Manitoba. A Celebration of Life and inurnment to be announced and take place in the summer of 2018. Special thanks to Drs. Badesha, Bovell, resident Peter and all the staff at the Grace Hospital 3 North for their loving care and commitment! In lieu of flowers, spend time with the ones you love, hold them and tell them you love them! Life is too short!
