GEORGE MICHAEL WOODS October 12, 1940 - December 11, 2017 George, cherished husband of Karin; absolutely beloved grampa of Harlow, died gently in mid morning in the company of his adored and adoring son Ryan. He died in St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care unit from pleural mesothelioma caused by exposure to asbestos in the workplace. There will be a full obituary in January, 2018. A gathering to honour and celebrate George's life will be planned for the springtime, probably May. George loved and was loved. A part of us will die with George, but a part of him will always remain in our hearts. George requested that donations in his memory be made to Rossbrook House, 658 Ross Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3A 0M1, or West Broadway Community Ministry, 102-222 Furby Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2A7, two organizations that he believed fill a great need in their respective neighbourhoods. Neil Bardal Funeral Centre in charge of arrangements.

  • George was not only a great Harachi champion ,but someone who gave me assuring guidance at different times from my early teens to my mid 30's.George always made me feel comfortable-that was his natural spirit. And that is what I will treasure..and miss. He was a beacon of goodness and generosity that extended beyond his immediate family to encompass Karin's cousins' families as well. Dear Cousins Karin, Ryan Matthew ,and Harlow,my deepest condolences and my wishes of strength to you. William Matthews - Posted by: william matthews (cousin) on: Jan 13, 2018

  • George and I spent many years coaching and doing other hockey things at River Heights CC. He was always encouraging the kids to have fun above all else. Later on in life, I met George again at the Rehfit Centre where we bragged to each other about our great grandchildren. I’m going to miss you George. Stay strong Karin and Ryan ... - Posted by: Rob Bright () on: Dec 20, 2017

  • George was a good friend and Co-Worker at the CNR who mentored me in our Union endeavours. I alway appreciated his astute prospective on dealing with difficult situations. I am especially remembering the time we met Skiing in Bamff Alberta and enjoyed having our children Skiing along side us. I will miss the conversations. - Posted by: Brian VanOutrive (Workmate & Friend) on: Dec 17, 2017

  • Very sorry to hear the sad news. I am so glad I met George for lunch my earlier visit home. He was a very good friend, a very learned mentor, and a very benevolent Union leader and brother. George was a considerate supportive and advisory counsel throughout my labour career, and, never had a bad thing to say unless it was about my golf game, which I undoubtedly deserved. The world has lost a shining star, but the heavens are better for it. My condolences to thefamily and all the friends. Rest In Peace King. - Posted by: Bryon De Baets (Friend and Union brother) on: Dec 16, 2017
