WALTER HICKAWAY Walter Hickaway (Hykawy) of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away peacefully at the River East Care Home on October 19, 2017. He was 92. He was predeceased by his loving wife Emily, November 13, 1999 and leaves to mourn his son Darrel (Evonne), Summerland, BC and daughter Denise (Kim), Lorette, MB; brother Tony (Madeline), Winnipeg, MB, as well as many nieces and nephews. Walter was born in Kreuzburg, MB then the family moved to Winnipeg's North End, eventually settling on Alfred Avenue for many happy and adventurous years. Walter worked at Burns, Pepsi Cola, and with his brothers, Harry and Tony, formed Northern Marble and Tile with a side business of delivering TV tubes to all the drugstores in Winnipeg. Walter later formed Universal Tile. Walter was known to have a fun approach to life, and was affectionately known as the "Candyman" around East Kildonan and at his favourite bar. He wanted to see a smile on everyone's face. All condolences were deeply appreciated. Cremation has taken place and a private service was held.

  • So sorry for your loss & your families will be in my thoughts & prayers. May he rest in peace. I got to know your parents through doing their income taxes each year. I really missed my visits with him each year after he had to leave his home. After your Mom passed away I still continued to do your Dad's tax returns .
