KEN COATES Ken Coates passed away at his home in Winnipeg on December 8, 2017. He was born in Pointe-du-Chêne, New Brunswick on January 20, 1940. Ken was a jack-of-all-trades and accomplished many things throughout his lifetime. He went from working in a fish factory, to driving school busses, to driving race cars and owning his own garage in New Brunswick. He moved to Winnipeg in 1979, owned his own business and eventually retired from World of Water. Ken loved the outdoors especially camping, bike riding and sitting around the fire he so proudly made. He was incredibly handy and had the ability to create anything he put his mind to. Ken was a quiet man, yet he was well loved by many. His laugh was contagious, and his heart was too big for his own good. Ken was loose and fast with maritime colloquialisms in conversation. It wouldn't be uncommon to hear him say "hold the phone" if he had a point to make. He was married to Wanda (Hayek) of Winnipeg on July 20, 1985. They have one daughter, Ashley, son-in-law Tyler, and fur-grandbaby Steve. He is predeceased by his parents, Reginald and Hilda (Clements), his step-father Art Breau, his sister Brenda and her husband Gerald Welling, as well as Ken's eldest sister Marion and her husband John Deschamps. Ken is also survived by his brother Glenn of Richmond Hill, ON, brother Wayne and wife Sue (Chappell), their children Dwayne and Vicki Sue, her husband Ken Posch, their son Will all of Moncton, NB, as well as numerous cousins in and around Shediac, NB. Ken has four children from a previous marriage as well as grandchildren of various ages, which he loved very much. There will be a memorial service to follow in the spring.
