ROBERT (BOB) MURRAY JOHNSON March 19, 1951 - November 8, 2017 Well now, if you are reading this, you know the devil has caught me napping and the Lord has called me home! A reflection of my life has led me from believing it to be ordinary to understanding it was exceptional! I was born March 19, 1951 to parents Donald and Olivia Johnson in Springhill, Nova Scotia, and moved to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba in 1958. The usual upbringing, schools, jobs, "living the life" so to speak. In the fall of 1973 lightning struck! I met a gorgeous gal by the name of Susan Lyon, the love of my life! Married in 1976, we created three boys who have turned out to be the most incredible sons a father could ask for. Quinn, Dane, and Vaughn you have made me proud and I love you! They in turn have married great gals Andrea, Miranda, and Andrea. I would be remiss if I didn't also brag about my fantastic grandchildren, Sidney, Rylee, and Maddie. I have been privileged to meet an eclectic group of people with a select few I can truly call "friend." Lake of the Woods, our little "Shanty" at Tin Town, travel - treasured memories. So, my life has been extraordinary in the best way possible! Oops, our little stray cat, Jake, who ran in one day and never left. You have given me laughter and joy. So if it sounds like I am bragging, I am! Lots of plans with loved ones are put on hold - my one regret! The pipes are calling me home and I have answered their call. - Written by Bob Johnson Special thank you for the excellent care and compassion from the Portage District General Hospital nursing and medical staff, Dr. D. Kinnear, Dr. B. Finney, nurses Cheryl, Annie and Heather on the chemotherapy ward, CancerCare Manitoba, Central Plains Cancer Services, Dr. Chris Sathianathan and his Nephrology team at St. Boniface Hospital, Sunset Palliative Care, Portage Ambulance Service, McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel and Rev. Julie Baker. A huge thank you to our friends, family and colleagues, your generosity has been amazing and we are truly blessed to have you in our lives. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. Family interment took place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Columbarium. If friends so wish, donations may be made in Bob's memory to Ducks Unlimited Canada, Box 1160, Stonewall, MB R0C 2Z0; or Portage District General Hospital Foundation, 524 Fifth St. SE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3A8; or to Sunset Palliative Care, Box 92, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3B2.
