ROSE ELLEN SOWA
Date of Passing: Dec 15, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROSE ELLEN SOWA During the early morning hours of December 15, 2017, we lost the heart of our family. Rose Ellen Sowa (nee Zolinski) passed away at the age of 84. Rose is survived by her husband of 65 years, Anton (Tony), daughter Sheron (Doug), son Barry (Wendy), grandchildren, Justin (Kerri) and Stacey (Sarah), and great-grandchildren, Anton, Camden, and Bennett; her brothers, John (Margaret), Mike, Stan (Lillian), Rick (Sandy), and Kaz (Valerie), and sisters, Cynthia, Althea, Mary, Phyllis (Lloyd), Emily (Ron), and Joyce (Carl). Rose was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Nellie, sister Patricia (Patsy), sister-in-law Mary, brothers-in-law, Emile and Gary, nephew Darrell, and goddaughter Debby. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends. Rose was born and educated in the small town of Rembrandt, Manitoba. As the eldest daughter, she helped her mother care for their home and her 12 brothers and sisters. She developed skills on the farm that would last her a lifetime. Her talent in the kitchen could not be matched. Family dinners were always an event with an abundance of traditional Polish foods. These meals were followed by decadent desserts, if you had room. And if you didn't, there was a doggie bag waiting at the door. Rose was truly happiest with her family at these meals. She was also a very talented seamstress, making numerous dance costumes and outfits for her daughter and nieces over the years. She loved knitting, crocheting, and making crafts. Her annual food and craft sale was her highlight, with people lining up to purchase her crafts and especially her pierogies and cabbage rolls. Her Tuesday night Bingo with friends, June and the late Mable were a must. An occasional trip to South Beach finally paid off with a jackpot win on her 80th birthday. The picture of her holding her cheque with a big grin said it all. Rose was a huge Bomber fan. You could always hear her, with husband Tony, sister Joyce, and friend Lil loudly cheering them on every game night. And travelling to the beaches of Hawaii, Mazatlan, or Puerto Vallarta every winter were much enjoyed, always returning home with a dark tan and loads of souvenirs. Rose worked for many years in the accounting department at the Hudson Bay Company. Upon retirement she continued to work part time with the Henderson Directory and then with the Diabetes Association. It is sad that Rose had to pass so near to Christmas, as this was her favourite holiday. She would have her home decorated, gifts under the tree, and her kitchen smelling like a bakery. She made wonderful memories for her grandchildren whom she loved and was so proud of. After several strokes, Rose spent the last two years at Middlechurch Nursing Home. Our sincere gratitude to the nurses and aides of BN1 for all their care. The family would also like to recognize and thank brother Rick and wife Sandy, friend June, and especially sister Joyce for their frequent visits and comfort. She was unable to communicate, but she knew who you were, that you were there, and that you loved her. Cremation has taken place, and, according to Rose's wishes, no service will take place at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. "Her love knew no bounds" Rest in peace Mom.

One of my fondest memories were Rose’s pickles and chocolate cookies. After lunch Barry and I would eat our weight in pickles and cookies. Rose was a great cook and I never left hungry. Laura and I send our deepest sympathies to the family. - Posted by: Doug Newberry (Friend of son Barry) on: Dec 23, 2017
