RICHARD MANUEL BENDER Passed on December 19, 2017 Beloved and devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, Richard Manuel Bender "hon" peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Richard Manuel Bender, the son of Emanuel and Anne (Kozak) Bender, was born October 18, 1944 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Rick attended Elmwood High School. He met his soulmate Dianne in 1970 and their unconditional love, mutual respect, and friendship were the secret to their success as evidenced through their 45 years of marriage. Very few are as passionate about their occupations as Rick was, and because of this he became a highly regarded and well-known Project Manager for Border Glass & Aluminum (The Border Group of Companies, Inc.), where he began not only his employment in 1968, but his lifelong friendship with the Borys family, both of which spanned his lifetime. In retirement, Rick continued to devote time to Border Glass, while enjoying time with his family, and his friends. Most of all Rick was a selfless man who was always concerned about the welfare of others. He especially loved spending time with his loving wife Dianne, whether it was spending time with their children, grandchildren, travelling, golfing, going for walks, shopping or watching movies. Most of all he loved to make people happy and laugh with his quick-wit and sense of humour. Rick is survived by his wife Dianne of Winnipeg, son Mike Bender (Colleen) of Duluth, MN, daughter Allison (Mark Silvaggio) of Winnipeg, his precious grandchildren Nathaniel, Noah and Neysa Scullard-Bender, Nicholas and Liam Silvaggio, brothers Larry (Elaine) of Winnipeg and Brian (Bernice) of Silver Harbor, sister Sharon (Dave Leochko) of Winnipeg, along with nieces and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his parents Emanuel and Anne Bender. Per Rick's request, a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date in 2018. Those who wish to be on file to receive future notifications regarding service information please contact Allison Silvaggio at markandallison@shaw.ca. A special thank you goes out to the entire staff at the Victoria General Hospital, The Buhler Centre CancerCare. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, Phone: 877-407-2223. The family wishes to extend their thanks to friends and family for their support and prayers during this emotional time.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Dianne I had no idea Benji had passed. I am so sorry for your loss. Rick was a staple in our home and my brother Barry thought the world of him. Those Elmwood boys spent so much time together and I witnessed many hijinx over the years. I am sure Barry was there to greet him when he arrived with a huge bear hug. I shall never forget him. - Posted by: Andrea Konyk (Friend) on: Apr 08, 2018

  • Rick was always a friendly neighbor and never hesitated to strike up a conversation. He always brightened up the street with planting flowers on the boulevard and always sent a friendly smile and wave. Rick was always supportive of my daughter's various fundraisers and never said no to a cause. Rest In Peace Rick! My thoughts and prayers are with Diane and her beautiful family.
