MARGARET THOMSON FRENCH (nee AIRD) October 26, 1929 - December 21, 2017 Peacefully on Thursday, December 21, Margaret, aged 88, passed away, surrounded by love. She endured six years of the ravages of vascular dementia and is now at peace. Margaret was born and grew up in Elmwood at 88 Hart Avenue. She was the youngest of four children of John and Elizabeth Aird. She was predeceased by her husband, Alvin in 1973, brother Ian, and brothers-in-law, James and Tommy. Margaret is survived by her two sisters, Mary Willows and Ailsa McKenzie, son Duncan (Donna), grandchildren Jenn (Aaron) Farrant and Evelyn French, daughter Aynsley (Rory) Rafnson and grandchildren Emilie, Erik, and Mary, as well as many nieces and nephews. Margaret worked for the City (West Kildonan offices) for 10 years, retiring in 1984. She enjoyed travelling, reading (especially mystery books), gardening, puttering in her yard/house, and a gin and tonic around the pool or on her balcony. She loved cats, the Winnipeg Jets, and grandkids' sleepovers. She discovered a love of fishing up at Caribou Lake when she was in her 70s. She was fiercely independent, practical, and all about using common sense. Thank you to the staff at Middlechurch Home (and Charleswood Personal Care Home) for their exceptional and compassionate care over these six years. There will be no service. A private family gathering will follow at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Please consider a charitable donation. Margaret's favourite charities were the Winnipeg Humane Society, the Salvation Army, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, and CancerCare Manitoba. Funeral Arrangements in Care of: Wheeler Funeral Home Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street - 204-224-1525 Please sign the book of memories at www.wheelerfuneral.com
