GARDNER CECIL GREENLAY Peacefully, on December 24, 2017, Gardner Cecil Greenlay, passed away at home with his family by his side at the age of 81. Gard was born in Portage la Prairie, MB on April 25, 1936. He went to school in High Bluff, MB. After school he worked in agriculture in Portage, before joining his father on the family farm near High Bluff. Gard met his future life partner and kindred spirit of 50 years, Beth Wishart, at a dance in MacGregor, MB. After marriage, Gard and Beth lived in High Bluff, then on the farmyard across from Gard's family home before they moved to the Greenlay homestead upon his parents' retirement. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Kirk of Portage, Heather of Portage, Cindy of Winnipeg and Debi (Jerry) of Winnipeg; sisters, Marjorie Young of Cypress River, MB and Verna McEwen of Portage, along with brother and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews, and their kids, along with dear friends. Gard was predeceased by his wife Beth and his parents, Lena (Young) and Cecil; brothers and sisters-in-law, relatives and dear friends. Gard was a quiet, hardworking man with the resolve and strength of a fighter who liked to tease and show his mischievous streak through that grin and smile in his eyes. We all have fond memories and stories to cherish of Gard's many interests throughout his life that he shared with Beth and the kids, his sisters and parents, dear friends, in-laws and relatives. These interests created many adventures and friendships over the years. They included his love and enthusiasm for farm life, animals, sports, hunting/fishing and auctions. His entrepreneur spirit fueled the farm businesses and ventures that he and Beth worked on together. His interest in the past and antiques, gardening and bird watching were enjoyed upon retirement. Friends and family, including his "Homecare" family, will miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the High Bluff Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 1508, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3T1 or to Parkinson Canada (Manitoba), 7-414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg, MB or to a charity of your choice. A service to honour Gard's memory will take place Friday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the Herman Prior Centre in Portage la Prairie, MB. • Terry always talked about going out to the farm to see Gard and Beth. We were also antique collectors and enjoyed poking around the buildings full of Gard’s treasures! Please accept my condolences on Gard’s passing. Joan - Posted by: Joan (widow of Terry ) Greenlay () on: Dec 28, 2017
