Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMIKE LANGER (MARANTZ) After a brief illness Mike died on December 22, 2017. He leaves behind his wife Susan Marantz, family members John Shlofrock, Elisa Shlofrock Zusman, Irene Marantz, Jeffrey and Barbara Marantz, Debra and Ellen Marantz, Sarah Marantz and Ira Lindenberg, David Marantz, Jeff, Susan, Sharon and Beth Blum, Candy, Marc and Bria Bernstein. His three friends who were his brothers is in every sense of the word Vas, Henry and John. His friend Mary, his beloved dogs Moe and Molly and many, many more friends and family who will miss him terribly. Mike was preceded by his parents, Leon Shlofrock and Ruth Bartashumas; his brother Jay; and his baba Ida Langer, who he was completely devoted to and was his inspiration throughout his life. Mike was born in Brooklyn. He grew up in Brooklyn and Queens New York. He moved to the Chicago area to attend University of Illinois where he studied chemical engineering. Mike spent most of his career in the insurance industry except when he was pursuing his passions of flying and skiing. He became a pilot and loved to fly. Having a plane was a great way to see clients out of state and to head to Jackson Hole for a weekend of skiing. His love of skiing took him all over the world going as far as starting a ski tour company so we can ski as a vocation. Mike was a true New Yorker and he loved good food and wine. Only New York bagels would do. Hence the often arrival at the front door of New York bagels via FED Ex whether he was living in Chicago or California. He was thrilled when Susan was offered a job in the California wine country and so began years of collecting and drinking wine and exploring the great culinary experiences of Sonoma , Napa and San Francisco. Aging parents brought Mike and Susan back to Chicago from California in 2001, but they were in the process of returning to California and had just completed the renovation of their new California home with the hopes of retirement among the Pinot, when he became ill. Mike was a friend to all, with an amazing spirit and over-the-top generosity. You knew when he entered the room. He was always helping out friends who had fallen on hard times or who just needed a little help. He set up a scholarship to fund University tuition for friends and family members children's to be able to pursue their educational dreams. Mike was a devoted son, nephew and grandson. He made sure the women in his family, his mother, aunt and grandmother always had what they needed even if it meant he went without. Mike was a devoted husband to Susan. Susan was his best friend, his wife, his soulmate and he loved the idea of having his own personal physician 24 / 7. Funeral services will be held at Chesed Shel Emes, Sunday, December 31 at 11:00 a.m., 1023 Main St., Winnipeg, MB. Chicago memorial to follow.
