CAROL STECIUK (nee ROSOLOWICH) and PETER STECIUK With heavy hearts and tremendous sadness, the family of Carol Steciuk (nee Rosolowich) announces her peaceful passing on December 26, 2017. Carol was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Anna, her eight siblings, her son Larry and son-in-law David. Her husband Peter passed away December 28, 2017. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gloria, Deanne (John), Mike (Brenda) and daughter-in-law Renata; her grandchildren, Carolynne (Denis), K.C., Shannon (Don), Joanne, Mark (Danielle), Jonathan, Ryan, Suzy (Tom), Michael (Hailey), Kaitlin and Haley; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Luke. Carol was born February 15, 1921, in Meleb, Manitoba. After her marriage to Peter in 1949, they moved to Winnipeg. After raising her children, Mom helped tirelessly with the grandchildren. Peter and Carol's retirement project was the Meleb Park Reunion and park development. They spent countless hours on the project and thoroughly enjoyed the time spent. Mom enjoyed casino excursions, playing bingo and the Toronto Blue Jays. In the summertime, Mom's main passion was her garden. She spent hours gardening, canning and cooking, and was always proud to share the results of her hard work with family and friends. A celebration of Carol's life will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at St. Joseph's Residence for their care of mom over the past 17 months. PETER STECIUK With heavy hearts and tremendous sadness, the family of Peter Steciuk announces his sudden passing on December 28, 2017. Peter was predeceased by his wife Carol just two days earlier; by his parents, Michael and Mary; four siblings; his son Larry; and son-in-law David. Left to cherish his memory are his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and siblings, Rose White, Paula Welsh and Jean Hanna. Peter was born July 21, 1926, in Meleb, Manitoba, where he grew up helping on the family farm, then later ventured out harvesting on other farms in southern Manitoba. From there he went to work in the nickel mine in Sudbury. In 1949, he married Carol and they settled in Winnipeg. Dad worked as a milk man and moonlighted at The Bay. He then hired onto CN Rail, where he worked locally at Symington Yard and Transcona Shops before becoming a brakeman and spending 20 years on the road (rails). He retired at the age of 61, when he then devoted his golden years to travelling, gardening, cheering on the Blue Jays and woodworking projects. He also made sure to spend quality time with his children and grandchildren, sharing countless stories of his younger years. One of Mom and Dad's special retirement projects was the Meleb Park Reunion and park development. They spent countless hours on the project, thoroughly enjoyed the time spent and always looked forward to attending the annual Meleb Park picnic. Dad was a gentle giant, strong-willed but kind-hearted and very giving. A celebration of Peter's life will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the homecare staff, as well as the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care of Dad. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice.

  • I have a very happy memory of my cousin Peter. I was just a young person many years ago in Narol, Manitoba when my father Mike Yakimovich and mother Eva Petrynchyn, would ask him to help with our vegetable and grain harvest. Peter would always oblige, he made time to come to our assistance no matter how busy he would be with his own responsibilities - he was always there for us. When the hard days work was finished Peter would still have the energy to lift me up on his big shoulders and walk me around the yard. He never complained, and I felt safe and proud to be treated in such a nice manner. When I was older I remember being invited by him and cousin Carol for dinner at their home. They were great people that displayed a sincere love for our family. I'm pleased to have had them for cousins. Thank you Peter and Carol, you have been an inspiration to me and showed me that kindness is a virtue. In talking with my two sisters, Helen Oneschuk and Rose Stemkowski, they both remember the friendly, happy cousin Peter, and Helen thanks him for teaching her how to drive a stick-shift truck. • Saddened to hear of the loss of your parents Mike. As your neighbors, we watched in amusement how your parents came over in the spring to take over your backyard, planting the largest vegetable garden I have ever seen. Is that why Praznik's Vegetable Stand has closed their operations? Enjoy all your good memories. Our sincere condolences to you, Brenda and Haley.
