DANIEL HAROLD HICKS Daniel Harold Hicks, 49, passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital, on December 18, 2017. He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and lived in Saskatoon, Edmonton, Brandon and Winnipeg. He is predeceased by his father, Harold Gordon Hicks. He is survived by his beloved mother, Madeleine (nee Bienvenue), his brothers/sister, Geoffrey (Cindy), Randall (Wendy), Carolyn and his cherished niece, Claire. Many will remember him as a person who loved to meet and help anyone who crossed his path. Neighbourhood Handyman, Mr. Fix-it, or just a friendly fence-post chat, he had an incredible talent to befriend all those he met. He touched many with his kindheartedness. He especially loved spending his time at the lake with friends, gardening and walking his dog. He was taken from us way too soon, and his big-hearted laugh will be missed. A family mass was held at the Parish of St. Timothy's and a memorial service will be planned in the New Year. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital (6E) for the care and kindness they provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favourite charity.

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I always enjoyed working with Dan we worked together at 7-11 for many years. He was always very helpful to someone in distress. I remember a very cold night, one January. The mercury was below 40 and an elderly fellow, a customer had a flat tire and It would have been a very long wait for a tow truck. Dan put on his jacket, gloves and hat and went straight to work and changed that tire in about half an hour. He was offered money for his services but turned it down. That was just the kind of guy her was. Another of his great pluses was his amazing sense of humour and he always enjoyed a good prank, it did not matter if someone was playing it on him or he was playing it on someone else, it was all the same to Dan. I was very sorry to hear of his passing at such a young age. He was loved and will be missed by many. - Posted by: Beverly Salkeld (Co-worker) on: Feb 27, 2019

  • I was very sorry to hear of Dan's passing. Dan helped my Mom out tremendously when she lived on River Road and it allowed her to remain in her home even as her health deteriorated. Our family will be forever appreciative of Dan's efforts to make my Mom's life better and offer our sincere condolences to his family at this time of sorrow. He was a good man. - Posted by: Bruce McPhail (Friends) on: Jan 02, 2018

  • Madeleine and family; my thoughts and prayers go out to you all at the difficult time. • I was so sad to hear of Danny’s passing, it hardly seems real. He certainly did have the most jovial of laughs and that is how I will remember him. I am thinking of you Madeleine, Geoff, Randy and Carolyn. Love Rachel xxxx - Posted by: Rachel Taylor (Family friend) on: Dec 30, 2017

  • Dan and I were good friends throughout high school and beyond. I have fond memories of driving in the Corolla listening to Tears for Fears. We spent a lot of time at the lake back then. Dan was a loving person with a great sense of humour. My condolences to the family. Dan will be missed. - Posted by: Kimberly Jolette (Mackay) (Friend ) on: Dec 30, 2017

  • I was completely shocked and saddened to here about Dan’s passing. Dan and I were extremely close friends growing up. I remember fondly going to his cabin at Pelican lake spending many weekends and summer holidays there as kids and young adults. Dan was a truly special guy, a loyal friend and really had a heart of gold. I would really like to attend the upcoming memorial once a date is set so if a family member could contact me that would be greatly appreciated. Once again my sincere condolences to Dan’s mom, Geoff, Randy, and Carolyn as well as all his other close family, friends, and relatives for their tragic loss.
