BARBARA SMYRSKI It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Barbara on December 21, 2017 in Calgary following a brief illness. Barbara was born in Thalberg, Manitoba in 1932 to Sophie and Wasyl Stilkowski. She lived in Winnipeg with her husband Peter since 1951 and later in life, joined her daughters in Calgary. Barbara was predeceased by the love of her life, our father Peter, in 2009. She also leaves behind her daughters and sons-in-law, who will miss her dearly, Patricia and Rick, and Janice and David. Barbara also leaves behind her dearest sister and best friend Mary Hutniak. She was predeceased by siblings, Mike and Annie, and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She also leaves behind her special sisters-in-law, Stella, Irene and Agnes, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Barbara was a truly vibrant woman who was loved by all who met her. She was hard working and cultivated her own creativity as a skilled seamstress: her love of sewing was a gift she shared with many. Mom had an incredible memory of special events and people and was known as the unofficial historian for the extended family. She loved and supported her children--us girls, through our every adventure and pursuit: she was there for us in every way possible throughout her life. Mom's love and kindness made the world a better place and her wit and sense of humor brought much laughter. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, auntie and friend. The family wishes to thank the entire team on Unit 36 at Foothills Hospital, notably Dr. Kashra and his resident team, for their diligent medical care and for their compassion throughout Mom's short stay at Foothills Medical Centre. We also wish to acknowledge Mom's special angels on Unit 36: all the exceptional staff that cared for Mom--our heartfelt gratitude to you. In memory of both our parents, memorial trees will be planted in the Memorial Forest at Fish Creek Provincial Park (Calgary). The trees represent quiet strength, beauty, longevity and peace. An announcement regarding a Celebration of Life for Mom will follow in 2018. We are blessed to have our Mom's love live on in our hearts forever. Vichnaya Pamyat We love you, Mom Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com
