HANNELORE WUTSCHKE It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hannelore (Lori) Wutschke. After a debilitating illness, Hannelore passed peacefully with her family surrounding her on December 27, 2017. Hannelore was born in Germany on November 23, 1944. Her family immigrated to Winnipeg in 1953. Hannelore was an active girl and played sports such as baseball and volleyball in school. She also loved roller-skating and dancing with a German dance troupe . This is where she ultimately met the love of her life at the tender age of 14. Hans and Hannelore wed in October of 1960. Throughout their 57 years of marriage they experienced many happy times as well as challenges. They were true partners in their life together. They built a house together in Lockport in the early 1970s. They then ventured into unknown territories by buying a business in 1982. Hannelore and Hans owned and operated Whitelake Resort in the Whiteshell for 24 years. Lori, as she was known there, loved her time in the Whiteshell. She knew all her customers by name and treated them all like family. Her Black Forrest cake was famous. In 2006, Hans and Hannelore sold the business to retire. Hannelore loved travelling to Florida each winter prior to her illness, as well as making trips to South Beach to play the slots. In 2015, Hannelore began experiencing symptoms related to Guillain Barre Syndrome. As with all things, she faced her illness with grace and dignity. Hannelore was a one of a kind woman, out-going, strong and so very honest. She was a very caring and nurturing wife, daughter, mother and grandmother. She is preceded by her parents, Heinz and Annie Gruger, as well as her grandson Stefan Savoie. She is survived by her husband Hans; children, Sylvia (Robert), Gerri (Lara); granddaughter Elyse; sister Eva Ruf; sister-in-law Helga Judt (AL), as well as several nieces and nephews. She will very much be missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to GBS/CIDP Foundation of Canada (https://www.gbs-cidp.org/canada/)

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • It has been a long time since having any contact with Hannelore , but having spoken to her sister Eva at the Fort Garry Place where the German Choir was singing, I was told the health issues she was suffering from. Many times we do loose touch with people as our lives take different directions, but it's at this time that many childhood memories come back to be shared. My thoughts go out to her family and especially sister Eva. - Posted by: Heidi (Weppler) Schmidt (Longago chilhood friend (west end) ) on: Jan 07, 2018
