ERIC MANFRED PENNER It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eric Manfred Penner on December 29, 2017. Eric passed away at his home, with family by his side. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Clara (nee Born), children, Joel (Tara), Philip (Agnes), Charlotte Hyatt (Erik), Graham (Pamela), and grandchildren: Jesse, Wyatt, Ella Penner, Luke and Holly Penner, Anna, Kathryn and Clara Hyatt, Mya, Eli and Dillon Penner. He is also survived by brothers, sisters, brothers and sisters-inlaw, nieces, nephews, and many many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Elizabeth Penner, and his parents-in-law, Abe and Anne Born. Also predeceased by two brothers, one sister and three brothers-in-law. Eric grew up near Kaleida, Manitoba, and then moved to Morden where he and Clara started their family. In 1984 they moved to Winnipeg, and later to East St. Paul. Eric was a successful businessman including Accurate Upholstery, Kamrose Window and Door and Arctic Spray-On-Systems. He loved to renovate and renew homes and helped all of his children renovate their various homes. He was a man of great faith who loved to share and teach about the Word of God and he impacted many with his love for the Lord Jesus Christ. Many learned who they were in Christ by the teachings of Eric and Clara Penner. He was generous with his time, finances, his wisdom, and most importantly, love and hugs. He was approachable to all and loved with a non-judgmental consistent love. His children and grandchildren loved all the time they got with him, from quad rides, to treats, story telling, renovating together, hearing his jokes, receiving advice, to hearing his laugh and constant encouragement. He was always ready and willing to help his children or grandchildren however or whenever he could. It was so important to him that all his children and grandchildren knew they were loved by both himself and our Heavenly Father. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children and grandchildren, and he has left a legacy of love that is embedded within them all. The service will be Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at The Church of the Rock, 1397 Buffalo Place (off McGillivray Boulevard between Pembina Highway and Waverley Street).

Condolences & Memories (18 entries)

  • Sending hugs to your family! I have fond memories of Clara being my piano teacher, after Olga Friesen moved to Winnipeg. Clara was just what I needed as a teacher - warm, caring, & encouraging. This helped shape me as a piano teacher - in Whistler, BC, for the past 17 years! I've retired from teaching school but still teach piano. Thank you, Clara! - Posted by: Joanne Heppner (Friend) on: Jan 09, 2018

  • Eric was such a great and loving friend. He showed love and kindness to my daughter and I and his gesture went a long way to make us feel at home, as new comers to Canada. Though we mourn and cry as we will miss you here on earth, we are comforted that you are in a better and beautiful place continuing your angelic duties. Ivana wishes she could hug you one more time. Sleep on in peace dear friend. Clara we hold you in prayers; may God comfort you and your family even as your faith in Him deepens. - Posted by: Edith Esubok (Friends from Church of the Rock) on: Jan 07, 2018

  • Hello Clara: I wish to send my Condolences and Sympathies to You and Your (Eric's) Family! I Pray that you will depend on God's Power and Peace that only He can provide. I lost my Love in 1998, and am aware of the void a passing Spouse can create. May God Bless You richly with new fulfillment! It is interesting to me that I was reminded frequently of Eric in the last couple of months. Did he pass of an illness, or natural, or accidental causes? I live in Calgary, AB. with my Daughter Jennifer Pelke, (two Grand Children). Love Art (art & Marilyn Friesen) Email; arthurg1@mts.net - Posted by: Arthur G. Friesen (Freind) on: Jan 06, 2018

  • Clara, We are so sorry to hear of Eric's passing. We were so amazed to see the two of you a couple of summers ago, when you and Eric stopped in at our place in Morden, we enjoyed catching up after so many years. May the God of comfort wrap His arms around during this difficult time. Larry and Ida Kube, Morden - Posted by: Larry and Ida Kube (Friend from way back) on: Jan 05, 2018

  • Eric is one of the most caring, kind, thoughtful wonderful human beings I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. The Lord blessed me so much, having introduced us. Eric and Clara have been my mentors in Christ for so long and I am so grateful for them both. Clara you and your family have been through so much, we love you all. I’m so sad that our wonderful Eric is no longer here on earth with us. - Posted by: Brenda (Sister in Christ) on: Jan 03, 2018

  • I was one of the lucky young adults privileged to have taken his after church Sunday school at Kilcona with my wife Agnes. Loved his over the top personality which made the Word of God anything but boring. Greatly enhanced our love and desire for learning about God and theology while promoting and encouraging us to take the important things about life like marriage, family and work seriously. Great guy, will definitely be missed, our condolences to your family. - Posted by: Ron Lutzer (Friend/student) on: Jan 03, 2018

  • Haven't been in touch for many years but still recognized Friends names from years ago. My sympathies to you Clara. We are going down the valley one by one and hope to meet again in glory. If it wasn't so cold, and our age wasn't against us, I would consider coming to the funeral to meet everyone from our growing up years. GOD bless! • Eric is a sad loss to the family, particularly to my sister Clara and the descendants of the two of them, of course, but also to the rest of the extended clan. He will be sorely missed; he was a generous and caring man with a great heart and a warm smile and laugh for everyone. He is gone to peace, we remain. AJB - Posted by: A. J.
