GEORGE ST. AMANT February 13, 1947 - January 1, 2018 It is with tremendous shock and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of George St. Amant, our incredibly awesome husband, dad and gramps. George passed away at St. Boniface Hospital ICU, with his family by his side, after a sudden and brief illness. George leaves to hold his memory dear, his wife, life partner and soul-mate, Pat Grant (nee Patenaude), his cherished daughter Lise (Willard), his precious grandchildren Tyson and Kiara, and the apple of his eye, his great-grandson, Darien. He also leaves his sisters Annette (Henri), Isabelle and Eveline (Wilfred), his brother Bernard (Barb), sisters-in-law, Lucille, Cecile, Cora, Doris, Lucille, Doris, Diane (Dwayne) and Carol (Kyle), brother-in-law Roland, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents Clovis and Yvonne (nee Gregoire), his brothers Romeo, Fernand, Mark and Gilles, sister Raymonde, sister-in-law Rose, and brothers-in-law Herman, Dick and Willy. George was born and raised in St. Jean Baptiste, Manitoba in a small farm house with his nine siblings. He spent his career in Winnipeg working for the Government of Manitoba as a Journeyman fleet vehicle mechanic until his retirement in 2002. Pat and George spent many years building and enjoying their home in Aubigney well into their retirement. George's love of the land, machinery and strong work ethic could not keep him still. He continued working part-time on the farm for his brother-in-law and nephew right up until his passing. George and Pat spent their free time camping, travelling the back roads of Manitoba, exploring every nook and cranny of North Dakota, road trips to British Columbia and time with their family. Cuddling on the couch with his furry friends MinMin and Gertie during their time in Aubigney brought George so much joy and love. Many precious years were spent and valuable memories were made with his daughter Lise and then his twin grandchildren, Tyson and Kiara. For the past five years, nothing could bring a twinkle to his eye like the time he spent with Darien. They were inseparable and had so much fun together. They were the best of friends. George spent his final day and moments with his precious little buddy Darien, relaxing and watching their favourite YouTube videos together. No one can ever replace the unselfish love, caring, fun times and life lessons you gave us all. We miss you tons. Special thanks to the paramedics, the Emergency team at Morris General Hospital, and the staff of St. Boniface General Hospital Emergency and MICU who were involved in his care. Thank you to the Transplant Manitoba Team for helping George in giving his greatest gift of all....The Gift of Life. In honour of Georges' request, a funeral will not be held. A Celebration and Remembrance of Georges' time with us will be held in the coming weeks. Information to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Georges' honour to the charity of your choice.

  • I was about 11-12 years old when George met my Aunty Pat, and I may have been a wee little bit jealous that he stole her away to Manitoba, after having her live so close to me my entire life. But, they shared a wonderful life together, and my family was so sad to hear of his passing. He somehow managed to get my niece to go zip-lining last summer, so we also know he was capable of great miracles. George will always be remembered! • When I was starting out in business George came in from St Jean Baptist and worked at our White Rose service station as my lead mechanic. No one worked harder. He was an employee and a great friend to all my family. Joycie and I will make a donation in George's name to the Motor Vehicle Industry of Manitoba - Sobering Auto Electric scholarship fund. This fund helps apprentices in the Automotive Industry. George would have liked to help. Travel well old friend. Don Sobering - Posted by: don sobering (freind) on: Jan 03, 2018

  • We are very saddened to hear of the sudden and shocking passing of George. Little did we know, when we talked to him at his brother's funeral a few weeks ago, that it would be our last time. To Pat, Lise and all the St. Amant families, may the beautiful memories you have of him, remain in your hearts forever. May he now rest in peace, being reunited with his parents, brothers and sister and other members of the family. God Bless. • We very much enjoyed our visit with George and Pat in 2016 when they came to see us at our newly purchased property in BC. George was very generous with his sage advise on all things farming. He rolled up his sleeves and immediately went to work helping us put our new home in order. Dwain enjoyed talking cars with George and was instantly taken by his friendly helpful manner. We were very much looking forward to another visit next summer but fate intervened and George was taken from us much too soon. Our thoughts are with Pat now as she bravely faces the challenges of a future so suddenly changed. We'll miss you George, Love Dianne and Dwain. - Posted by: Dianne Patenaude (Dwain) (Sister/Brother in law) on: Jan 03, 2018
