DAVID JOHN MELVEN
Born: Nov 23, 1957
Date of Passing: Dec 24, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID JOHN MELVEN November 23, 1957 - December 24, 2017 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Dave. Dave was predeceased by his father Jack in 1990, and leaves to cherish his memory his mother Anne Howes (Ron), his brother Wayne (Linda), stepbrother Kim, and stepsister Sandy (Ernie), as well as nieces and nephews. Dave grew up in the East and North Kildonan areas, and spent most of his life there. In his youth he was very active in sports - playing hockey, soccer, floor hockey, and especially lacrosse, where he excelled. In lacrosse, he was named to the Manitoba All-Star team, travelled to the Canada Summer Games, as well as the Founder's Cup across Canada on numerous occasions, and he continued to play senior lacrosse with the East Side Stars for many years. Dave was a steamfitter by trade, and a proud member of Plumbers and Steamfitters, Local 254. In later years, Dave enjoyed fishing and golf with many of his good friends, and quiet times at home. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Thursday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m., at the Royal Canadian Legion #215, 3900 De Vries Ave., East St. Paul, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave's name to a charity of your choice.

Condolences to the Melven family. I was in shock when I heard news, brings back some of my fav. child hood memories hanging with Dave and his family. Rides on the CT70 and the 750,playing pool in his basement and toppers, and of course the boxing gloves. Playing hockey. His sense of humour will be missed and I am sorry I never crossed paths with him later in life. My deepest sympathy to Wayne and Mom....take care - Posted by: John Klein (childhood friend) on: Aug 11, 2018

I worked with Dave off and on for the last 3 years. He was great to work with. Very Patient. A great sense of humour. He always shared his gum and Crossword puzzle with me. I’m happy to have met him. We had a great respect for one another. - Posted by: Kevin Robinson (Co-Worker) on: Jan 25, 2018

Dave, I found you to be a most loyal friend. You had a gentle soul, but were certainly not one to be messed with. I had looked forward to golfing with you, Jerry and Charlie, but it wasn't meant to be. Sorry I missed your going away party. You were truly a special one and will be missed by all whose hearts you warmed. - Posted by: Peter Kolodka (Friend) on: Jan 12, 2018

We are so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. Remembering the old floor hockey days Dave was a hell of a player and competitor. Always remember him as being just a great guy and whenever I saw him we always had some good laughs. Carol would especially like to offer her condolences to long time friend, Dave's brother Wayne. - Posted by: Carol and Barry Guindon (Friends) on: Jan 06, 2018

I am saddened to learn of Dave's passing. It was privilege to get to know him while we were teammates on the E.K./Winnipeg Northstars Senior Lacrosse Club and later, the East Side Stars. A particularly memorable moment is of us drinking from the Free Press Trophy as we celebrated the Stars winning the provincial senior boxla championship in 1982 after a long drought. Dave was a genuine super person and a great teammate - a talented, team-first player who competed hard every shift. My deepest sympathy to the family. Rest in peace Dave. - Posted by: Dave Gillis (Lacrosse teammate) on: Jan 06, 2018
