THE REVEREND JOHN (TED) CRABTREE

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHE REVEREND JOHN (TED) CRABTREE Ted Crabtree, born in Toronto, in 1928, died on December 30, 2017, in the presence of family, at Misericordia Place. Ted was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Doris, and Marian, his loving wife of 56 years. He leaves to grieve his children Joan of Winnipeg, Janice (Tex) of Vancouver, Carol (Matthew) of Ottawa and Sharon of Toronto. Ted was the loving grandfather of Joshua (Kimberly), Timothy (Arlene), Jonathan (Melanie), Kalie, Brianna, Nathan (Neve) and Kaitlyn, and his brother David (Angie) of Belleville. He will also be missed by his great-grandchildren: Aiden, Katianna, Heather, Zachary, Oliver and Samuel. Ted graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1949. He joined The Royal Bank of Canada, serving in Dauphin, Winnipeg, and in the head offices in Montreal and Toronto. He retired from the bank in 1983 and entered Wycliffe College (University of Toronto), graduating in 1986 with a Master of Divinity. He was ordained the same year in the Diocese of Niagara and served parishes in Milton, St. Catharines, and Niagara Falls. He retired from full time ministry in 1993 and joined the parish of St. John's in Port Dalhousie. After his retirement from active ministry, Ted and Marian enjoyed a number of trips with Elderhostel and spent many memorable holidays in Barbados and on several of the Grenadine Islands. In his younger days, Ted was an active jogger and squash player. He was passionate about Canada, the Anglican Church, history, economics, reading, and being a life-long learner. Ted valued his memberships and friendships at the YMCA, the Rotary Club, and the Probus Club of St. Catharines. The family would like to thank the nurses and all other caregivers at Misericordia Place for the kind and compassionate care Dad received during his time there. The funeral was held at St. Peter's Anglican Church, Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date in St Catharines. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winnipeg Harvest, St. Matthew's Maryland Community Ministry, or a charity of one's choice.
