Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHEODORE (TEDDY) ANDREW SOLINSKY It is with great sorrow that the Solinsky family announce the passing of husband, father, brother and grandfather Ted Solinsky on December 4, 2017 at Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Ted was predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and Andrew Solinsky, brother Glen, sister Phyllis Hapko and grandson Todd Solinsky. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Donna, sons Kerry (Nora) and Keith (Renee), daughter Heather Pagdin (Grant), sons Kent and Kevin, granddaughter Amber, grandsons Kolby (Courtney) and Kramer, granddaughter Hayley Glanc (Patrick), brother Don, and sister JoAnne Laberge (Marcel) and family. Ted was born in Riverton, Manitoba on February 1, 1935. He moved to Bissett with his family where he met and married Donna. There, they started their own family, and developed many friendships that have lasted a lifetime. They moved to Fort Garry (Winnipeg) in the summer of 1966 and have resided in the same house ever since. During his time in Bissett, Ted worked at Currie Transportation. He was also an RCMP Special Constable for five years. Upon moving to Fort Garry, Ted joined Fort Garry Police and then Winnipeg Police Service during the amalgamation process. He retired from WPS on January 21, 1995, a highly regarded Detective Sargent who was fiercely dedicated to his squad. Following his retirement, Ted and Donna wintered out in B.C. working with Keith on several charity fundraising projects for the next 12 years. Ted made many friends over the years with his genuine interest in people, and his personable and outgoing personality. Engaging and good humoured, Ted always greeted people with a twinkle in his eye, making time to stop and talk. He was equally happy to make new acquaintances or see old friends. Famous for his stories, Ted was known to stretch the truth at times. Ted always loved to walk his Schnauzers and visit with other dog walkers. He was the unofficial mayor of Calrossie Blvd. Ted's interests included, fishing, hockey, snowmobiling, gardening, curling, water-skiing and walking. He was also a very active member of the Bissett Historical Society. Ted's presence will be missed by his family and many friends, but his spirit will always be with us. He will be remembered as a loving husband, great father, brother and grandfather. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the great care and kindness extended to Ted and family by Dr. Sheldon Permack, Scott Neherniak and the wonderful staff on Four North, Victoria General Hospital and Cropo Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life for Ted will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest a donation to a charity of your choice in Ted's memory.

What can't be said about Ted? He was a policeman's policeman. I first met Ted after being transferred to District 6 in the early 1980s. I immediately recognized his fierce passion and dedication to the job and his determination to get the bad guys. After several years I was privileged to be assigned to his plainclothes unit where he lead with the kind of care and concern for his members that almost seemed impossible to achieve. Ted was truly one of the best supervisors I ever had the honour to work for and alongside of. He will be sadly missed and to his entire family I offer my sincerest condolences. RIP TED. - Posted by: Garry Leach (Co-worker) on: Feb 28, 2018

Donna, Donnie, Joanne and families, this was such sad news but our heads tell us Teddy is in a much better place, cajoling everyone up there! At this past year's Bissett Christmas dinner on Sunday Dec. 3 we all had a chance to remember Teddy, a day before his passing. The Solinsky family have long been family friends from our Bissett days and we have fond memories of that time. "Those we love can never be more than a thought away, For as long as there's a memory, they live in our hearts to stay." With much sympathy and love, Faye Hogue Ormsby and Marlene (Hogue) Oussoren - Posted by: Marlene (Hogue) Oussoren (Bissett family friend) on: Feb 02, 2018

Although my family moved from Bissett in the early 50s, I remember Ted as an older teenager, but one who was so full of energy, fun, and humour! My dad was a curler and I have a photo he took of Ted with other young curlers which I would like to send to the family. In recent years I've enjoyed the annual Bissett Christmas dinners and reunions, and delighted in reveling in memories of those from the good old da"Z"e. The world has lost a wonderful man who should not have left us so soon! My sympathies to Donna and the family. - Posted by: Liz (Hegler) O'Neill (Friend) on: Jan 08, 2018

I remember Ted being a super friendly person with everyone he met. He took me under his wing the few times I worked with him in the 70,s. He was always willing to teach a young policeman with his knowledge and expertise. I met Ted several months ago in a store and said Hi to him. He remembered me and we chatted just briefly. As we said our goodbyes Ted thanked me very much for saying hello and speaking with him ... with his smile and twinkle in his eye..that was special for me and Ted had the knack for making people feel special. He was a very Special person..Condolences to his whole family.. yes, he will be missed.. - Posted by: Dan Coffell (co worker from the 70 ,s) on: Jan 08, 2018

Ted was quite a character. He had a good sense of humour and was a great story teller. After a few years of retirement to White Rock, B.C., I was surprised to see Ted in White Rock selling the local Peace Arch Hospital lottery tickets. Ted had also retired from the Winnipeg Police after a successful career and was doing charity work with his son Keith who was a figurehead behind this yearly lottery, which greatly assisted the hospital. A most congenial Ted could be found inside the front entrance of the hospital generating sales. Ted was popular with everyone there and did this for several years and would find time to have coffee with we few comrades who moved to B.C. As usual, we would re-hash the ‘ cop stories ‘ and share some laughter at some of the humorous situations we experienced. He would go back to his home in Winnipeg after the yearly lottery wrapped up. On one occasion when I did return to Winnipeg on a visit, I ran into Ted and wife Donna at a restaurant. We were there for lunch and talked until the supper menus were brought out ! As cops rate each other.. ’Teddy’ was one of the ‘Good Guys.' - Posted by: Richard 'Dick' Hickling (colleague and friend) on: Jan 06, 2018

I met Ted in 1966 when he joined the Fort Garry Police department. When meeting Ted you became his friend. Our families interacted over the next 10 years through Department gatherings etc. Ted was a great friend & workmate. His tales were very entertaining. It was a treat to know Ted, Donna & all the kids. We've lost touch over the years but have always been on my mind. Sincere Condolences to Donna & all her family.
