Date of Passing: Jan 07, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHEILA MAYES It is with a heavy heart the we announce the passing of Sheila Mayes. Sheila was born March 20, 1934 in South Shields, England and passed away January 7, 2018 at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg. Sheila is survived by her husband of 63 years, Derek Mayes. She is also survived by her children, Susan, Richard and Dianne (Sean); and grandchildren, Richard and Nicholas. She is also survived by her nieces in South Shields, England. Sheila immigrated in 1956 with her family to Canada and loved her new country. She worked for the Federal Government (DND) for 25 years and retired in 1995. Her retirement years were spent working on her hobbies and travelling to her favourite places Gimli, Lockport and the Badlands, South Dakota. The past few years her health began to decline. Sheila would have had to stay close to home and enjoyed her outings to the Assiniboine Park English Gardens. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and hospital staff at the Grace Hospital for Sheila's care in her last months. There will be no public service. The family wishes to have a private service at a later date. Come to Me God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you, and whispered, "Come to Me", with tearful eyes we watched you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone; For part of us went with you, the day God called you home. Rest in Peace. Condolences on the passing of Sheila. I knew Sheila when she worked at the dental clinic on the base. She was very pleasant lady, always had a moment for a friendly chat. With thoughts and prayers, Maureen Caslake, New Brunswick - Posted by: Maureen Caslake (co-worker) on: Jan 29, 2018

I offer my condolences to the family. I have spent my Monday afternoons with Sheila while Derek went grocery shopping. We spent our afternoons researching things on the internet and talking about anything under the sun. I won't forget how sheloved her crossword puzzles. We loved watching The Little Couple on tv. You will surely be missed. My Monday afternoons will never be the same. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Sharon () on: Jan 17, 2018
