LOIS ARLINE DEARDEN
Date of Passing: Jan 13, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOIS ARLINE DEARDEN Peacefully, at Victoria Hospital, on Saturday, January 13, 2018, Lois passed away. She was the beloved wife of Eddie, for 67 years. Lois was a few weeks short of her 90th birthday. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter Cathy (Howie Blatt) and son Craig (Cathy Boase); her grandsons, David Blatt (Seri), Josh Blatt, Riley Dearden (Amy Barrington) and Adam Dearden; and her great granddaughters, Hannah and Maya Blatt. She is also survived by Linda Mulherin, mother of Riley and Adam. She is survived also by her brother Dave Farlinger and her sister Evie Tanner (Dr. John Tanner) and several nieces, nephews and many Partridge family cousins in Canada, the US and England. Lois was predeceased by her parents, Dave and Eveline Farlinger, sister-in-law Roslyn Farlinger, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Vi Dearden. Lois grew up in West Kildonan and attended St. Martin-in-the-Fields Anglican Church, which had been built by a great-great-uncle and her grandfather. She was very proud of her grandfather Edmund Partridge and his work in West Kildonan. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy, attended The University of Manitoba Faculty of Home Economics and then Teacher's College (Normal School). Her first teaching job was in Port Arthur. In Winnipeg, she was a Home Ec substitute teacher and then began teaching adult Bishop sewing classes in the Seven Oaks Community Schools program and then at the Contempo Fabrics store. She met her beloved Eddie at age 15, when they both were students at Centennial School. Lois and Eddie celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in October. Lois loved going camping when Cathy and Craig were small and occasionally the family rented a lake cottage. She loved her Palm Springs vacations once Eddie retired. Of course Calgary was always a destination to visit Craig and his family, always with homemade baked cookies in hand. She and Eddie had a trip to England to meet the relatives there. She was devoted to her family. Whenever a relative was coming to Winnipeg, they always had time for Lois. Lois had many hobbies, most importantly her sewing projects, creating beautiful gardens and genealogy. She loved to research the family roots and has left a legacy of her work. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Reynolds, Dr. Lee and Dr. Goulet at Grace Hospital, Dr. Battad and his team at St. Boniface Hospital, and Dr. Bria Sharkey and Dr. Megan Jack at Victoria Hospital. The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard Blouw for his many years of professional and compassionate care. Funeral service will be held at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street, on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Lois' memory to the Partridge Family Scholarship Fund. Cheques may be made payable to the Seven Oaks Educational Foundation, 830 Powers Street, Winnipeg, MB R2V 4E7.

I never had the chance to meet Lois in person, only via letters and postcards and photos that she shared with me over the years, when we exchanged our findings regarding our mutual Partridge connection. I am very sad to find now that she has passed away, I am truly sorry to hear it. My condolences to Ed and Craig and Cathy, I know how she loved you all. I will light a candle tonight in her memory. My prayers are with you. Barb in Australia. - Posted by: Barbara from Australia (Distant cousin ) on: Apr 20, 2019

I have happy memories of a Loyalist meeting at your home many years ago. Lois was such an active member of the Branch and proud of her Loyalist ancestry. Do any of your offspring have an interest in family history. I worry about all of the old files that could go to our Branch. I lost my husband John Carter of badminton note of yesteryear, in May of 2015. - Posted by: Margaret Carter UE (Winnipeg/Manitoba Branch United Empire Loyalists' Association of Canada) on: Jan 22, 2018

I have fond memories of playing minor hockey with Craig and being coached by his father, Ed. Mrs D always made me feel welcome in their home and I am so sorry to hear of her passing.
