JOHAN (JOHN) OUENDAG February 23, 1943 - January 17, 2018 In the early morning of January 17, Johan and his family shared with one another their fondest memories and final goodbyes. In his words, he assured us that he felt "peaceful", and inspired us with the courage to so calmly bid his last farewell. He is forever remembered by the love of his life, Cheryl (Malyna), his sons Craig (Erin) and Ken (Beau), grandson Max, and sister Dory. Johan was predeceased by his parents Johan and Johanna, and sister Miep. Johan immigrated to Canada in his teens, graduated from Automotives at Tec-Voc, then joined his father at Standard Aero. "Johnny O" continued working part-time after retirement, making him their longest serving employee. When not at work, Johan has made his family feel like they are his greatest priority. He cherished his time growing up in The Netherlands and the opportunities he was given to return for work. He had an affinity for the outdoors, and enjoyed car racing and photography. We are forever grateful to everyone who has offered friendship and support to Johan and his family throughout his life. Those who desire may make a donation in Johan's memory to the Canadian Wildlife Federation. Please join us in celebrating his life on Monday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul. "Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation. For they are us; our bodies are only wilted leaves on the tree of life."

  • With deep and sad hearts we send our Deepest Sympathy to Cheryl, Ken, Craig, Erin and grandson Max. John was a wonderful kind man and a good friend to us. We love to travel with John and Cheryl on Vacation, John knew so much about nature and we loved to listen to him, he had very calm and rational way of talking about things. We will miss John very much , we have lost one of our dearest friends. Some scriptures that helped us through this sad time was John 11-23-29 and Matthew 24 1-14. John you will always be in our hearts and never forgotten - Posted by: Pat and Darren Grandbois (Friend) on: Jan 24, 2018

  • Sincere condolences to Mrs Ouendag and family on the passing of a wonderful man. I had the blessing of having Mr. Ouendag as a mentor at Standard Aero where I was an NDT inspector from 1983 to 1992. I was the first female MPI inspector at the time and John and Alex Chernichko mentored me and gave me the confidence and knowledge to achieve my goals and dreams. He was a kind, giving and inspiring man to whom many will forever be touched by the honor of knowing him. God bless you all. - Posted by: Moira Connolly (Coworker) on: Jan 22, 2018

  • In March of 1986 "Johnny O" hired me as a quality inspector at Standard Aero. For that I will be ever grateful. John teamed me up with a small band of fantastic people that were a joy to work with and taught me a lot of things. It seems clear to me now that John had a knack for assembling good teams. At various points in my time working for John, he asked me to get involved with different things that were outside my normal work area or scope of normal duties. He exposed me to a number of new experiences, and introduced me to many new people. He had a very calm and rational way of dealing with situations, and his mannerisms and approaches eventually had a very positive impact on me. I think of John Ouendag as a teacher and a mentor. I am proud to say that I knew him, admired him, and respected him. - Posted by: Rick Porayko (Past employee) on: Jan 20, 2018
