JANE ISABEL COURT (nee CLEMENTS) May 11, 1933 - January 16, 2018 On January 16 Jane passed away suddenly, with her grandson Lucas at her side. Jane is survived by Edward, her loving husband of 63 years; children Jim (Gwen), Audrey (Barry) and Peter (Carmen); daughter-in-law Karen; grandchildren Christine (Thor), Carolyn, Lorraine (Ian), Lucas (Dayna), Alanna, Devan (Leah), Jamie (Adam), Jessica (Mac), and eight great-grandchildren; brother Jack (Muriel), sister Judy, and their families; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Alan. Jane grew up in Rathwell, Manitoba. After graduating high school, she came to Winnipeg to attend Normal School for her teaching certificate. She began her teaching career in rural Manitoba and taught for six years before resigning to start her family. Jane was an amazingly strong and independent woman who lived a busy and exciting life. She was an avid bridge player, loved to knit, sew, and make quilts, and enjoyed live theatre productions as a MTC season ticket holder. She devoted much of her life to volunteering with many organizations including Folklorama, Fringe Festival, Winnipeg Folk Festival, door-to-door canvassing for charitable organizations, and the Cancer Society. She was a member of the United Church and UCW, and was awarded the Winston Armstrong Memorial Award as recognition of outstanding service in Young People's Work. Family remained a top priority to Jane and she never missed an opportunity to attend important events. Through the years she could be seen in city arenas with her knitting bag in hand attending her children's / grandchildren's sporting events, concerts or competitions. If her family was involved you could count on Grandma being there. Special thanks to Kathy Jordan and James Tam for their support throughout the years. This death has left us all with heartache which no one can heal, but our memories which no one can steal. Please come share your memories with us on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Headingley United Church, 110 Bridge Road, Headingley, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or S.P.I.K.E. Inc.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I am sorry to hear of your loss. My Mom- Mae Sewart - enjoyed her company immensely for bridge and scrabble and was incredibly sad of her passing. - Posted by: Liz Beingessner () on: Jan 21, 2018

  • We were taken aback to hear of Jane's passing. She was such a lively and vibrant person. We particularly enjoyed her smile at the bridge table. We know her family will be deeply saddened by her loss. Unfortunatey we could not attend the service as we are in Mazatlan until the middle of April. We offer our condolences to the family but in particular Ed and Jim whom we know well. - Posted by: Barbara Thomasson, Barry Pask (friends) on: Jan 20, 2018

  • I am very sorry for your loss. Isabel Yule was my grandma (Marcia Orrell [Yule] is my mother) and I remember visits from Jane when I was a child. God's peace and comfort be with you and your family. - Posted by: Dean Orrell () on: Jan 20, 2018

  • To the family, especially Alanna and Audrey: I was so very sorry to hear of Jane's passing. The info was passed along thru Chris's church blog. She will be very much missed by our church family, I know. It was such a pleasure to know her even a small amount, from our coffee Sundays and bits of conversation at the church. I am so sorry not to be able to attend the service this afternoon since Peter and I are away on the Colorado River in Arizona for a few weeks, but I will be thinking of you all. Many blessings on you and all of the family. Margaret and Peter Mills - Posted by: Margaret Mills (friend) on: Jan 20, 2018
