PATRICK ALFRED RIVERS On December 26, 2017, in Weslaco, Texas, our beloved husband, Dad and Poppa, Al Rivers, of Grande Pointe, MB, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, at the age of 70 years. Patrick Alfred Rivers was born October 21, 1947, in Winnipeg, being the eldest son of Alfred George Rivers and Jessie May Rivers (Holtby). Al was known to family and friends as an emphatic story teller, who was proficient at adding his own twist of humour. He was always there for friends and family, when needed, especially if it involved his trusty toolbelt. Al was very active in the union movement, United Steelworkers and very active in New Democratic Party. In 1975, he met Bonnie (Keep) at the United Steelworkers office and on March 25, 1978, they were married. Al and Bonnie had two children together, Patrick James Rivers (June 10, 1980) and Darcie June Rivers (September 2, 1981); as well as a granddaughter, Aimee Skye Rivers (July 14, 1999). They loved the time they spent together, especially with their grand-daughter, Aimee. Al is dearly missed by Bonnie, Patrick (Elsa), Darcie and Aimee; as well as his brothers, Ken (Carol), Gerry, Reg (Lori); brother-in-law Marvin Anderson; sisters, Kathleen, Eileen (Morris); his brothers-in-law, Rick (Denise) Keep, Jef Keep and sister-in-law Gaye Keep (Lenny), and many relatives and close friends. We dearly loved the winters that we spent in Texas. Thank you for the support our family received during this time, both from Siesta Village and back at home. I will never forget you, Al, and It will never be the same without you. I hope you are riding your 750 Shadow. A celebration of Al's life will be held in May, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Al's name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.

  • Saddened to hear of Al's sudden passing at far too young an age. I knew Al from his work as the chairman of the Highway Traffic Board and appreciated the way in which he so ably chaired that group. To all his family my sincere condolences. Chuck Lund, P. Eng., MB.
