EVELYN PATRICIA SLADE October 20, 1937 January 9, 2018 Evelyn Patricia Slade died on January 9, 2018, in Edmonton, AB, surrounded by her loving family, after a short illness. She was born on October 20, 1937, in Portage la Prairie, MB, and was her parents, Anna and Clarence Pelk's, third of seven children. Evelyn grew up in High Bluff, MB, where her parents were wheat farmers. She attended United College in Winnipeg, MB, where she met her beloved husband, Donald Worrell Slade. Together they had four children, Debra, Timothy, Patricia and Donna. Evelyn lived in Winnipeg for almost 25 years, and in Fort Saskatchewan, AB, for almost 40 years. She loved working with seniors, and was a nurses' aide for many years. Evelyn enjoyed ice skating, square dancing, genealogy, gardening and music. She loved to sing, and had been in choirs throughout her life. She is survived by her daughters, Rev. Debra Slade (Peter Kent), of Ridgefield, CT, Patricia Slade (Steve Rich), of Doha, Qatar, Donna Slade (Jeff Baird), of Fox Creek, AB; and grandchildren, Laura and Emma Kent and Joseph Diotte. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Walker, of Winnipeg, Marlene Anderson, of Vancouver, Myrna Zulkowski, of Bowmanville, Kathleen Lomonaco (Ross), of Toronto and Alice Oswald (Barry), of Winnipeg, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Donald Slade, in 2004; her son Timothy Slade, in 2016; her parents, Anna and Clarence Pelk; her brother Edward Pelk; and her brother-in-laws, Edward Walker, Carl Anderson and Les Zulkowski. Evelyn will be deeply missed, and remembered for her love of her family, her exuberant spirit, and her positive encouragement to always "look on the sunny side of life." In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Old Time Singers, Evelyn's most recent choir, in care of Katherine Braid, 10302 102nd Ave., Fort Saskatchewan, AB T8L 2B4. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at the First United Church, 10409 100 Avenue, Fort Saskatchewan, AB at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018, with a reception to follow.
