JOHN W. RUDAN John W. Rudan passed away peacefully, at his home, on Saturday, October 7, 2017. John was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and spent his early years in Canada. John's humble start as the son of Ukrainian immigrants, together with his faith in the Ukrainian Catholic Church, inspired him to be a better man throughout his life. In his youth, John participated in the Ukrainian community through St. Andrew's Church and Shashkevich Hall in Winnipeg. He attended Norquay School and graduated from St. John's High School. John went on to earn his Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Manitoba. At University, John met the love of his life, Doreen. They married in 1956, moved to Montreal and started their family. In 1958 John was accepted to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he earned his graduate degree in Industrial Engineering. Early on, John took a keen interest in the computing field and spent most of his career developing academic computing systems at Cornell. John retired as Director Emeritus of Cornell Information Technology. John's wife, children and grandchildren were the center of his world. During his 60 years in Ithaca, John was also very active in the Ithaca community through coaching youth hockey, public service in the Lion's Club, volunteer work at the Immaculate Conception Church, and much more. John was predeceased by his parents Antin Rudan, Olena (Anhel) Rudan, and his sister Stephanie (Rudan) Borys. John is survived by his wife Doreen (Heuchert) Rudan, his children: John Rudan Jr., Michael (Brenda Kelly) Rudan and Tessa Rudan; and his grandchildren Megan, James and William Rudan. John is also survived by nieces and nephews: Irene (nee Borys) Ellis, Diana Borys, Joseph Borys, Myron Borys (Linda Ratz), and Mary (nee Borys) Markesteyn (Trevor Markesteyn), grandnieces and nephews, and extended family in Ukraine. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Andrew's Church on Euclid Avenue in Winnipeg on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10.00 a.m.
