DONNETT A. HODGE After a short, but courageous, battle with brain cancer, our wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Donnett Aileen Hodge passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018, with her family by her side. She leaves to mourn her husband of 42 years, Roland; her daughters, Kristin (Troy), Nikki (John) and Eliza (Vanessa); granddaughters, Madison (Rebecca), and Taylor; and her brother Harold (Barbara), as well as her sisters and brothers-in-law, nephews and nieces and numerous friends, whom she also called family. Donnett was born on December 8, 1948 and has resided in Lac Du Bonnet, MB for the last 23 years. Mom lived to make her family, husband and house her priority and strived to make sure everyone was happy and healthy. Anyone who was lucky enough to know Donnett knew she had the gift of a green thumb with her gigantic flower baskets, flower beds and plants that were the envy of all! Over the last few years Mom and Dad were lucky enough to be able to spend part of their winters in Mexico and met a lot of wonderful people and made some amazing memories on these trips. No words can express the hole she will leave behind but she will continue on in our memories and thoughts, and we will forever cherish her and her love for us all. We would like to express our sincerest thank you to the amazing staff at CancerCare Manitoba, the Selkirk General Hospital for their kindness and grace, especially nurses Julie, Courtney and Lindsey, and Dr. Ian Alexander for his compassion, honesty and kindness to our entire family. We could have not done this without all this amazing support. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 28 at the Lac Du Bonnet Community Centre, 25 McArthur Ave., Lac du Bonnet, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba - Adult Brain Tumor DSG. Thank you for all the love Mom, now go and fly with your angels.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • It has been now more than one year since Donnett left us. On the 1 year anniversary of her passing, a memorial was held in Rincon De Guayabitos, Mexico. This is where she and Rollie spent a few winters. This was one of Donnett's favorite places. She made so many friends here and even made an impact on the community by creating and donating a very special bra for charity. On the morning of Jan. 21 2019, 30 plus family and friends gathered on the Guayabitos beach and said goodbye to Donnett as Rollie gave a piece of his wife to the ocean. There will always be a part of Donnett in this beautiful little Mexican town she loved so much. Donnett had one last laugh with all that loved her. We all gathered for a picture on the beach. Everyone was at least 50 feet from where the waves came up on the beach. Just as everyone gathered and some knelt for the picture, a rogue wave came up and got us all wet. We all laughed and agreed that Donnett got the last laugh on us with her never to be forgotten wave. Many cried, many laughed, and all vowed that Donnett will always be loved and never forgotten. We all are grateful she came into our lives. - Posted by: Troy Hoebee (Son-in-law) on: Feb 26, 2019
