Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAKOTA LEE MCKELVEY March 6, 2002 - January 22, 2018 It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden, and unexpected passing of Dakota, on January 22, 2018. Dakota was 15 years of age at the time of her passing. Dakota was born and raised in Winnipeg by her grandmothers. At the age of 8 or 9, she had gone into C.F.S care because her grandmother could no longer care for her. Dakota was a very quiet girl, she was more of an observer and a listener. She loved horses, skating, listening to music, playing her guitar, singing karaoke, and visiting family when she could. Dakota loved being around her family. Her favourite artists were Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, her favourite song was "Wolves" by Selena. Dakota is going to be greatly missed by all that knew her. Left to cherish her memories are mother Bobbie-Sue; sisters, Kayla, Leanne, Hailey, Ava; brothers, Paul, Kegan, Marshall, Aden and Kaylum. Grandparents, Roger and Debbie. Aunties, Crystal, Marsha, Ashley and Jessica, numerous uncles. Dakota was predeceased by her father Norman Campbell and grandmother Violet Campbell. Wake (Viewing) will he held on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 Midnight at Eternal Grace Funerals, 1111 Logan Ave. at McPhillips Street. Formal service will begin at this time. Thinking of you today like so many others, you left us all too soon. I deeply regret not reaching out sooner and I was so ignorant with my own internal problems. I’m sorry that this world was too cruel to you, that you felt unloved. I know what it feels like, you were a kid who deserved the best the world could offer. I hope you’re making beautiful art and singing lovely songs in the spirit world as you did on earth. Much love Dakota xo - Posted by: Autumn Bear (Roberta Newey) (Foster Sister) on: Nov 13, 2024

You were a kind, talented, and a high spirited young lady with a knack for nature, singing and drawing. Loved spending time with you, teaching you how to collect the perfect clear quartz on sunny summer afternoons, to those evenings when our foster parents would forget to collect our 3DS’s and we’d have a few good races of Mario Kart in secrecy. Let’s collect rocks again one day dear Dakota, you are missed. Love Roberta - Posted by: Roberta Newey (Former Foster Sister) on: Apr 16, 2019

I was hoping to visit her grave, because I miss her so much. We were foster sisters for awhile, but when I moved out, 3 months later I got the bad news. I wanted to tell you how sorry I am. I was hoping to know where she was buried, and if I can have your permission to visit her. I miss her so much and I wish I could say goodbye to her. - Posted by: Teaghan Marie (Old foster sister) on: Oct 26, 2018

Dakota was one of my best friends from HC Avery, we talked a lot and we helped each other through so much. I still remember how she always ran up to me saying “ hey bestie”. I’m always going to miss her being around to make me laugh even when I’m sad. She will be greatly missed and thought of everyday. I will always miss having my friend around to talk to. - Posted by: Kayla (Friend ) on: Jun 23, 2018

I am heartbroken to hear that Dakota has died. She was a lovely, quiet and eager to please young girl. Dakota was kind and respectful to her teachers and classmates. What a terrible loss. I am so sorry for all those who cherished her. - Posted by: Deb Thordarson (Former teacher) on: Jan 28, 2018
