DAVID ADRIAN MADDEN March 5, 1934 - January 29, 2018 With gratitude for the gift of his life, the family of David Adrian (Dave) Madden, announce his death on Monday, January 29 at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 83 years. Dave will be lovingly remembered by his son David, wife Deneen, children Jaren (Rachelle) and Ryler. Son Jean-Pierre, children Catlin and Julia and their mother Aileen; by his brother John and his sisters Brigid, Eileen and Sheila. Dave was predeceased by his wife Bertha, his parents Julia and Michael Madden and his sister Mary. Born March 5, 1934 in Swan River, Manitoba, Dave attended Kelwood Consolidated School, and then Manitoba Technical Institute (MTI) in Winnipeg where he earned his certificate in diesel mechanics. Dave's working life began at age 19 working for CN Rail installing telephone lines in Northern Ontario, followed by his study at MTI which led to a 44-year career at Standard Aero Engine starting in 1956. Beginning as a shop mechanic he progressed steadily throughout his career at Standard Aero. Respected by all and a mentor to many, he held several management positions and finished his career in 1999 as Director of Training and Safety. This role gave him tremendous satisfaction and allowed him to pursue his passion of teaching. His gift of making the complex understandable was evident to all. Dave had an enduring impact on many of the employees of Standard Aero. Through much of his working life, Dad was a weekend farmer which kept him close to the work he was born into. It was more than just a hobby for him and it drew on his great strengths of hard work and mechanical genius. After retiring dad continued to repair and renew, be it his vehicle or home he was most often working on some project. When not hard at work, dad enjoyed being outside, playing golf. A celebration of Dave's life will be held at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 10:30 am. An opportunity to greet the family will commence at 10:00 a.m. Father Sam Argenziano, a special friend of the family, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:45 am. Interment will be in the family plot at Assumption Cemetery (Portage Ave. West) at a later date. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Dave and Deneen, Jaren and Rachelle, and Ryler, We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad and Grandfather. Our fondest memories of your Dad and Grandfather were when we would get together at family gatherings. He would enjoy, not only a home cooked meal, but the company of all who attended. Your Dad and Grandfather greeted everyone with a smile and listened intently to every story that was shared. He will be truly missed but his spirit will live on in each one of you. Take good care of yourselves. Love Norm and Charlene - Posted by: Charlene Jones (Related to the family) on: Feb 11, 2018

  • Jean-Pierre, I am sorry to hear of your father's passing. My condolences go out to you and your whole family. I did not get to know your father well as he retired the year after I started working at SAL, but everyone here who has dealt with him has had nothing but good memories of him. - Posted by: Dan Bernardin (Went to school with J-P Madden) on: Feb 08, 2018

  • Dave reached out to me in friendship quite a few years ago. He would drive in from St. Francis Xavier and meet me for coffee and donuts at the Sals on Portage. Over the years we had many get togethers and became good friends. I will miss him and extend my condolences to all family and friends in their loss. - Posted by: Rennie Smith (Friend) on: Feb 06, 2018

  • We're truly sorry for your loss and the entire family's. I figure for a son like Dave to be so remarkable, his Dad must have been that much more wonderful and special. Prayers are said for all of your hurting hearts and we pray that God's peace and comfort envelope each of your hearts. We also pray that when you share stories of your Dad or grandpa or brother, that it will be a source of comfort and maybe shed some smiles and laughter. I'm so sorry that I won't be able to make the funeral. - Posted by: Angela Stupak (High School friend of Dave and Deneen) on: Feb 03, 2018
