RICHARD (DICK) ELLING MAGNUSON September 5, 1931 - January 27, 2018 It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Richard (Dick) Magnuson. He was predeceased by our mother, Ingrid on January 8, 2018. He is survived by four daughters, Heidi Magnuson-Ford (David), Leah Lempesis (Bill), Ruth Magnuson (Chris Pearce) and Sonja Magnuson (Chris Dolman); 10 grandchildren, Julia (Phil), Karen (Patrick), Erika (Brandon), Alan (Brooke), Kyle (Vanessa), Brianna (Delroy), Kevin, Desiree, Jonah and Clara, as well as one great-grandson, Mason. Richard will be remembered by many as a caring and compassionate pastor. He served congregations in California, Oregon, Nebraska and Manitoba, and focused primarily on youth and outdoor ministry. Richard had a keen sense for new initiatives and was instrumental in the purchase of the fishing camp in Northwestern Ontario that became Luther Village. While in Nebraska, he brought many young people to Luther Village. He also initiated the development of one of the first preschools in Kearney, Nebraska which continues to this day. He was proud of his accomplishments as an elite competitive swimmer in his youth and university years. Water enjoyment and skills played a central role in Richard and Ingrid's family. Music was important to him and a strong part of his ministry. Richard was a wonderful Opa who loved to be with his grandchildren. He provided wisdom and support; rides in his Zodiak and on the tractor lawn mower. All of us enjoyed BBQs, fishing expeditions and admiring his garden, especially his lilies and the goldfish pond. Stained glass was his retirement career. He created beautiful windows, cupboard doors, lamps, panels and stand-alone pieces which adorn spaces in homes of many family members, friends and churches. Dad and Mom were a beautiful and caring couple. They supported and complemented each other through their 61 years of marriage. A quiet interment of Richard's ashes will take place at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, White Rock, BC on February 4, 2018. A Celebration of Life for both Richard and Ingrid will take place on February 10, 2018 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Winnipeg, MB, 637 Buckingham Road at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one's church, Canadian Lutheran World Relief, or a charity of one's choosing.

Having met your father at your wedding Ruth, you could tell how loved he was and the interactions we had with him - we knew he was a good man. Sending Love and Hugs Mike and Janet - Posted by: Mike and Janet Pearce (In - laws) on: Feb 03, 2018
My condolences go out to all of the family. My husband Ron & I joined Mt. Olive Church the same time as your Mom & Dad (also coming from Wpg.) Your Mom was in the next room to my husband in hospice at Peace Arch, so myself & family would visit with Ingrid & Richard and vise versa. I will cherish the happy memories I have of both of them. Blessings to you all Maureen Fingler - Posted by: Maureen Fingler (Friend) on: Feb 03, 2018
