HARRY THOMAS ABBOTT Harry Thomas Abbott, 89, Lincoln, NE, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 22, 2018. He was born April 17, 1928, to Thomas and Corona (Yandt) Abbott, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He was a playful and deeply caring brother to his three siblings, Reg, Al and Anita. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was also involved in the Royal Canadian Army Signal Reserve Force as a Lieutenant. Harry worked for Brunswick Corp. in Lincoln, NE and it was there that he was granted two patents. In 1984, he moved to Daytona Beach, FL, to run Multable Manufacturing Facility before retiring from Brunswick after 40 years of implementing ideas and serving as an honoured employee. Harry was very active in his church as a dedicated board member for the Christian Science Church in Lincoln, Nebraska; Daytona Beach, FL; and Blowing Rock, NC, as well as the Beech Mountain Country Club. During his school years and throughout the rest of his life, Harry was passionate about sports. He enjoyed being a player, as well as a supportive spectator. He loved basketball, hockey, bowling, curling, tennis, baseball and golf. He loved investigating, building and creating and gave himself wholeheartedly to everything he did. Harry shared a huge zest for life and loved to travel and take in all the charm and beauty that this world has to offer! He enjoyed family vacations and trips both local and abroad with his loved ones; this brought him a great deal of joy and pleasure. He lived a full and rich life; one that he enjoyed telling others he was exceedingly grateful for. Harry was a man of integrity and honour, a loving and devoted father, husband, friend and gentleman. Family members include his brothers, Reg (Lorene) Abbott and Al (Judy) Abbott; son Murray (Laurie) Abbott; daughters, Debbie (Richard) Poudrier, Elaine (Robert) Lacher and Janice (Wade) Godfrey; grandchildren, Alex and Whitney Abbott, Dawn and Michael Poudrier, Marine Corp Sergeant Nicholas Lacher and Mathew Godfrey; great-grandchildren, Pierce and Owen Lacher. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • To Murray, Debbie, Elaine, Janice and families, Sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad Harry... the Lalor family were close neighbours and friends with Harry, Bernice and kids in Applewood, Ontario (now Mississauga) many years ago, and we have many fond memories of our times together. Please accept our condolences. Joe, Peter and Mary Jane Lalor and families. - Posted by: Joe Lalor (Former Neighbour) on: Mar 02, 2018

  • The Abbott family had a strong presence in the Riverview district in which I spent my youth. Closer in age and chumming with Al and later being a teammate of Reg my involvement with Harry was limited but impactful in a positive way. I knew Harry as a kind, compassionate gentleman, supportive of his siblings in their sporting accomplishments while down playing his own exceptional athleticism. I know how much he will be missed by Al and Reg and all of the Abbott family. Charlotte and I send our condolences to all Harry's family and friends!! - Posted by: John Rendall (Friend) on: Feb 05, 2018
