HILDA WILLER Peacefully, on January 29, 2018, Hilda Willer (nee Polheimer) passed away at the age of 92, at the River East Personal Care Home. Hilda will forever be missed by her daughters: Brigette Skoglund (Ron), Ollie MacLean (Jim) and Ursula Wilgosh (Mac). Oma will be lovingly remembered by her seven grandchildren: Sue, Toni (Wendy), Lara, Kristin, Melanie (Paul), Carrie (Mikhail), Kelsey (BJ), and seven great-grandchildren. Hilda is also survived by four stepchildren: Marianne, Christa, Brigitte, Horst and their families. Hilda was predeceased by her husband Karl Willer in 1993. Hilda was born on July 17, 1925 in Wels, Austria. Growing up near the Alps, she was an avid downhill skier. Hilda came to Canada in 1955 and after working for a few months in Halifax, she eventually settled in Winnipeg. As a single mother, Hilda was a hard worker and often worked as many as three jobs to support her daughters. Hilda met the love of her life, Karl at the German Society of Winnipeg and they married in 1972. Oma loved travelling with Opa around Canada and Europe. In their later years, they loved spending the winters in Arizona and summers in Camp Neustadt with family and friends. Hilda's grandchildren have many fond memories of spending summer days picking pussy willows and swimming with Oma. Oma was an incredible cook. Christmas and other holidays were filled with tons of food, from rouladen, dumplings and soups to cakes, tortes and other treats. She was also an amazing seamstress and enjoyed crafts. Oma was always there to lend a hand with school sewing projects or a handmade Halloween costume. Together, Oma and Opa made beautiful dollhouses for the grandkids and she also made beautiful needlework pillows that we all will cherish. Oma had a wonderful sense of humour and a quick-wit which always made everyone laugh, especially when she thought she was out-smarting the doctors and we will miss this greatly. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Irene Baron Eden Centre and River East Personal Care Home for their kindness and care they gave to our mom and oma in her last years. Cremation has taken place and a private gathering and celebration of Hilda's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask to please consider signing up to be an organ or tissue donor at sighupforlife.ca. Donations can also be made to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Diabetes Canada or a charity of your choice.
