MARLENE ROSE LOUDON August 18, 1939 - February 5, 2018 Peacefully, and surrounded by her family, Marlene passed away on February 5, 2018 at the age of 78 following a long illness. She will be lovingly remembered by daughters Carol Ann (Richard) and Colleen (Darryl); granddaughter Rachel (Steve); friend Brendan (Beverly) and their daughter Jenessa; and numerous grandcats and granddogs. Marlene was predeceased by husband Barry, and grandson Nathan. Marlene was born and raised in Winnipeg, the only child of Norman and Evelyn Harrison. She grew up in the River Heights area and attended Earl Grey and Kelvin High School. Following graduation, Marlene worked in the accounting and bookkeeping departments at Holt Renfrew, Maytag and Manitoba Health. She married her high school sweetheart, Barry and moved to Southdale to start a family. She devoted herself to her husband and two daughters. Marlene was a wonderful wife and a kind and loving mother. She adored her grandchildren and loved spoiling them. Marlene enjoyed reading, gardening, road trips with her family, socializing with her dear friends, cheering on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and spending time at her favourite restaurant, Rae and Jerry's. Marlene and Barry enjoyed hosting dinner parties and were known for their legendary Grey Cup, Christmas and Birthday parties. Even during her illness Marlene never stopped enjoying the little things she loved. Her spark, strength and smile were an inspiration to everyone around her. Many heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of 2E at Riverview Health Centre for your compassion, kindness and loving care during her nine year residency. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Marlene will be held on Thursday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel at Riverview Health Centre, One Morley Avenue in Winnipeg. Memorial donations may be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. "Love is your quality. Love is not what you do. Love is what you are."

  • I had the best mum a daughter could ask for. She was loving, kind, supportive and always there for me. We were best friends. I will cherish the wonderful memories we had together and she will always be in my heart. Mum, I will see you everyday in the colorful flowers, the blue skies, the mountains and sunshine in Scottsdale. I love you. - Posted by: Colleen Benson (daughter) on: Feb 08, 2018

  • We have lost a dear friend. Carole & I have many years of fond memories of time spent with Marlene & Barry. We will miss her. Our thoughts & prayers are with the family. - Posted by: Carole & Jack Tomkins (Friends) on: Feb 06, 2018

  • My deepest condolences to Marlene's daughters & family. We were school friends & for years after, then eventually lost touch. When Barry died, we reconnected, but mostly just Christmas cards, then unfortunately lost touch again. I am so sorry that I did not know of Marlene's illness or I would have visited. I have a couple of pictures of Marlene when she was a teenager, if the family is interested. I am sorry, but will not be able to attend the memorial service.
