AVILEIGH (LEIGH) GAIL SHERBY (née GIRARD) Suddenly, on February 2, 2018, at the age of 69, Avileigh (Leigh) Gail Sherby (née Girard) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Leigh leaves behind her loving husband, Rick, children, Dana (Jon Burgoyne) and Michael, two beloved grandsons, Harvey and Stanley, her sister Karen (Roger Watson) and their children, Heather and John. She was predeceased by her parents, Vic and Edna, and her brother Wayne. Leigh grew up in Norwood, attending Holy Cross and Nelson Mac schools. She worked at the municipal hospitals as an administrative assistant for several years, until Dana was born, followed two years later by Michael. Leigh was a very devoted wife and mother. She loved to cook, entertain and laugh. She was also an avid reader, loved spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting, and loved to travel. Leigh and Rick were able to enjoy many wonderful trips together, including Hawaii, the Panama Canal, Mexico, Greece, and Quebec City. Despite struggling with health issues later in life, Leigh never gave up or complained. She loved life and did her very best to stay around as long as she could. She was very courageous and a fighter. A celebration of Leigh's life will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church (830 North Drive) at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 17. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to CancerCare Manitoba or The Lupus Society of Manitoba. The family would like thank the ER staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their professionalism and compassion during this difficult time.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I was away and Karen sent me the news....Even though I moved to B.C., I would try and meet with Leigh and Karen for lunch when I returned for visits. But, I do remember growing up and as a teenager going to the Girard's weekend evenings. Remember when dancing downstairs in the rec room? She was such a fun gal. Despite her health issues, she always dwelled on the positive and the next trip she was planning. So, sorry for your loss. I remember when Phyllis would visit and her and Dana would make gingerbread cookies. I'm sure it was a fun time for all. Now she's dancing around up there with her parents and Wayne and Phyllis. - Posted by: Vicki Yankoski (my sister Phyllis was married to Leigh's brother Wayne) on: Feb 18, 2018
