PATRICIA MCKELVEY 1922 - 2018 Pat McKelvey passed away peacefully on January 31, 2018 in the presence of her family. She is survived by her daughter Joan (Allister) and grandsons, Andrew (Chantal) and David (in Winnipeg), by her son Peter (Jillian), grandchildren, Timothy (Christine), Jamie (Michael), and Megan (Matthew), and great-grandchildren, Landon and Olivia (in Ontario, BC and PEI), by her sister Marie (in BC), and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John Glenn ("Mac"), her parents, and her brother Grigor. Pat was devoted to all of her family and to her many friends. Pat was a kind and generous person, who leaves a huge hole in the hearts of all that knew her and who miss her dearly. She had the strength of will and the longevity inherited from her Bain ancestors in Scotland. Pat was a constant walker, often miles at a time, and in earlier times an avid cross-country skier. She loved dogs. Pat was a keen sports fan, especially her beloved Winnipeg Jets (season ticket holder from the very beginning), the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and of course the sport endeavours of Andrew and David. And she had a special affection for Clear Lake. Pat was born in Winnipeg, and raised in Portage la Prairie and Fort William. She served as a member of the WAC in the Second World War, posted in Quebec, Washington, DC and London, UK. After the war she married Mac and set up a home in Toronto. After Mac's untimely death in 1954, Pat moved back to Winnipeg to raise her family. She served in clerical and supervisory positions with the RCAF. She devoted her life to the raising of Joan, and later retired in 1986 to focus her gentle inspiration and guidance on Andrew and David. She was their constant friend, support and influence throughout their lives. They all had many happy adventures together. Pat's kindness, joy, wit, laughter, competitiveness, and love will always be cherished. Private family celebrations of Pat's life have taken place. In lieu of flowers, anyone so wishing may make a donation in Pat's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Joan McKelvey, I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. I remember visiting her with my mother - Peggy Henderson. I was named Patricia after your mother. I also remember a day of shopping with you Joan.. I even considered becoming a lawyer because you were. What an influence you all had on me and I know your mother meant so much to my mom. - Posted by: Patricia Henderson (Family Friend) on: Nov 28, 2023

  • When I was first employed with the Public Service and the Department of National Defence, Patricia was my first supervisor. I was young and inexperienced. She offered me guidance and was very helpful. When I was "swamped" with work, work which had deadlines, she would come over to my desk and take some of my workload and work on it herself. This helped give me some relief from the stress of trying to meet those deadlines. And, she had a wonderful sense of humor which really helped to ease the pressure of trying to meet those deadlines. I had worked 30 years, different jobs, and had many supervisors - but Patricia was the most kindest to me. From my experience no other supervisor could measure up to her. My condolences go out to the family. Lesley - Posted by: Lesley (Co-worker) on: Jan 17, 2021
