JAROSLAVA (JERRY) SLONOSKY (nee BACHYNSKY) 1922 - 2018 Surrounded by family, our wonderful mother and grandmother peacefully passed away, at home, on Friday, February 9, 2018 at the age 95, and will be lovingly remembered in the hearts of her family and friends. Slava, also known by many as Jerry, is survived by her sons Michael (Angela) and Nick (Elizabeth Marr), daughter Sandra (Brian Peterson), grandchildren Jennifer, Jonathon, David, Allison and Eric, as well as many other family members and friends whose lives she touched. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Walter, parents Julia and Nicholas Bachynsky, sister Olga Slotiuk, brother John, and daughter Julie Anne. Born in Winnipeg in 1922, she grew up with an extended family of uncles, aunts, and cousins, all of whom she remained close to throughout her life. She was a civil servant at the Fort Osborne Barracks through the Second World War. Mom and Dad married in 1952, and raised their family as life-long residents of West Kildonan. Together, they developed a great love for gardening, and were active members of the West Kildonan Horticultural Society well into their retirement. She took great joy in her family and friends. Mom was a loving, caring and compassionate woman, with a great sense of humour and responsibility. She was always sociable and out-going. She was a true friend, an excellent listener, sensitive, non-judgmental, and loved people. She was always there for her family, friends and others lending a hand. Until her last few years, she loved to cook, knit, do crosswords, and was meticulous in all she did. The family thanks Dr. MacMillan and the special caregivers who provided assistance and care over the years that enabled our mother to enjoy her independence and ability to live at home. A very special thank you to her friend Linda for the support she provided. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. VICHNAYA PAMYAT Korban Funeral Chapel (204) 956-2193 www.korbanchapel.com
