PAUL HAVIXBECK Peacefully, at home surrounded by his loving family, Paul passed away on February 13, 2018. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Charliene and four children, Brad (Virginie), Michelle (Gregg), Lisa (Kevin) and David (Amanda), and 11 grandchildren whom he cherished. Paul grew up on the family farm with his eight siblings where a strong work ethic was part of everyday life. He was a man for others. To his students in the St. James School Division, he was a dedicated teacher. To his family, he was an excellent role model and mentor. To his friends, he was a problem solver and the "go to" guy for various projects. His favourite pastimes included going to the cottage and making memories with family and friends, and travelling the world. Paul enjoyed making new friends, especially through Friendship Force. The family would like to thank all those who offered constant love and support, as well as the dedicated staff at the Buhler Cancer Centre. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 16 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd.

I was fortunate to have been a student of Mr. Havixbeck at Hedges Junior, in the early 1980s. My fondest memories of him, was me trying to get his attention and waiting at his desk while he helped everyone else. I was so impatient I ended up stapling all his loose papers to his desk, then I sat down. He returned a few minutes later to grab some papers. As he tried to lift papers they continued to tear in half. He quickly realized what happened, and kept me after school to talk about it. I thought I was done for. But, he had no anger and was apologetic for keeping me waiting. It was a life lesson for me. I regard him as an outstanding teacher because of moments like that. - Posted by: Brent MacDonald (student) on: Mar 01, 2018

The Havixbecks were the most generous and caring neighbours I could have ever asked for. Paul was always here lending a helping hand, whether it be he was pumping up my bicycle tires, fixing my pocket door, my toilet leak, my garage door, my leaky dishwasher, my outdoor lights…the list goes on and on. He was so talented and always, always made time for me. I always admired seeing Charliene and Paul on their walks, walking hand in hand or watching them leave the driveway on their daily bicycle ride. I knew their bond was very special. I will miss my shovelling partner very much. - Posted by: Belle Cameron (Neighbour of 20 years) on: Feb 15, 2018

Paul was more than a teacher. He was a gentleman, a friend, a positive example for all to follow and a person who made all around him accountable for their actions. My condolances for your loss. Mr. Havixbeck was a very patient teacher. I was not a good student and he never could get me to understand algebra but he never lost his cool with me. Frankly, I think he went easy on me. I will remember that always. - Posted by: Jeni Brooke Eaton (Student) on: Feb 15, 2018
