GEORGE LESLIE HOBSON April 16, 1928 - February 12, 2018 Peacefully, with his wife Marlene at his side, George passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018. George will be remembered with love by Marlene; his children, Craig (Susan), Glenn (Amy), Lynn (Kevin), Ron (Leslie) and Barb (Greg); grandchildren, Jon, Lauren, Marley, Nigel, Mason, Barry, Aaron, Danielle, Riley, Jacob, Madison, Cody, Matthew, and Julia; along with brothers, Elton (Grace), and Gerald (Anne); and many nieces and nephews. George and Marlene's large circle of friends will also miss him greatly. He was predeceased by his wife Wilma and siblings, William, Gary, Gladys, Elsie and June. George was very proud of his 37-year career with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, having retired as a Platoon Chief. His bronzed hat and axe that hung in his room, along with his firefighter license plate were testament to his pride in his long and successful career. After retirement, George and Marlene enjoyed the snowbird life for many years in Florida and Arizona, playing golf and remaining active in their retirement community, which included serving on the executive and volunteering to organize many events and fundraising activities. Back in Manitoba, they spent many summers enjoying the lake life of Lake Winnipeg. They also remained strongly connected to the firefighter community, enjoying many social opportunities with retired firefighters, both in Winnipeg and Arizona. Being an avid and well-respected bridge player, George seldom lost a game. He also loved science fiction and watching sports, especially football, hockey and curling. He had an opinion on everything and wasn't afraid to share it, which led to many lively family gatherings. George had such pride in his family and enjoyed attending many concerts, plays and sports games to watch and cheer on his grandchildren, his greatest legacy. A celebration of George's life will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Boulevard at Dieppe Road. Should friends desire, donations can be sent to the Winnipeg Firefighters Burn Fund at http://www.burnfundmb.ca/donations/ or to PO Box 45001 RPO Kildonan Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2C 5C7 - or a charity of your choice - in memory of George. • George was my first Captain when I started as a firefighter. He was a old school firefighter and helped teach me my job. "Speaking our minds" was a trait we both shared and led to some spirited exchanges during my time at Station 6. My condolences to the family. A life well lived, the man did a lot of good. - Posted by: Scott Miner (Colleague) on: Feb 15, 2018
