MICHAEL STEPHEN (MIKE) GUYDA March 18, 1965 - February 9, 2018 With broken hearts we are sad to announce the passing of this special, amazing man. After a strong and courageous battle with cancer, Mike's wish was to spend his remaining days at home surrounded by his family, friends, and his beloved dogs Phoenix and Colbie. Mike was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and after graduation moved to Vancouver. Best remembered for his love and dedication to family and friends. His determination to succeed in all projects at work or home was relentless. He leaves behind his partner, Roland, of 22 years, and devoted parents Marlene and Brian. He will also be remembered by his aunts, uncles and cousins, as well his extended BC family. The family would like to thank the many professionals who cared for Mike, in particular Dr. Cass and the Palliative Team. Special love to David and Danny K. for their support through this most difficult time. As per Mike's wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the home from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mike will be forever in our hearts. SHUSH - we hear you Mike!

  • My heart is very saddened for my dear friend Marlene and Brian for their heartbreaking and unexpected loss of Michael. I've know Michael since he was a small child, and through Marlene, watched him grow up and become an amazing man, who found much happiness in his life. Our sincere and heartfelt condolences for your beloved son, Michael, and he will always remain in our hearts. - Posted by: Maryanne Peters & Norm Rivard (Lifetime dear friend) on: Feb 18, 2018

  • How very sad! My mum was Michael’s baby-sitter back when he was a tiny infant until he started school. And his mum was a friend of my sister. I remember “Mikey” very well. He used to sit on our front porch in his kiddy seat, waiting for me to get home from school! It was so long ago, but really doesn’t seem like it. I remember, during THE great March blizzard of ‘66, he and his parents had to bunk at our house overnight!! Unfortunately, we all lost touch, as people do. I did teach a member of his family many years later, but never saw him again. I wish I had. I am glad he found love and dogs; two of the most important things in life. My condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest In Peace, Michael. From an old friend. - Posted by: Lesley (Symaka) Senior (Old family friend) on: Feb 17, 2018

  • My condolences on behalf of myself , my father Crawford, my siblings and my daughter and son in law. We are so sorry to find out about Micheals sudden passing, with so much of life still to come! Our thoughts and prayers to all of his family and loved ones. Our family lived and still does right next door to the Guydas. Crawford enjoyed coaching Micheal along with Brian. My brother grew up and was friends with Mike. I remember bringing home all the stray dogs Mike and I could find!!!
