MILDRED ALICE SHEARER
Date of Passing: Feb 11, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILDRED ALICE SHEARER Mildred Shearer passed away peacefully on Sunday February 11, 2018, in her 93rd year. Left to cherish Mildred's memory are her beloved husband Norman, and the rest of her family: sons Lawrie (Lana) and Ken; daughters Cathy (Ken) and Pat (Ted); grandsons Trevor and Sean; and great-grandson Liam. She was predeceased by her parents Emily and James Evans; brother Art; daughter-in-law Barbara and her beautiful granddaughter Ashleigh. Mil was born and raised in East Kildonan and began her working life at 15 as a clerk at Eaton's Department Store. She met Norm while working at a small electrical company. They married in October 1950, a few months after the famous flood. Dad built their home in River Heights. Mil always said she "loved her little house", a house that she made into a warm and cozy home. Friends and family were always welcomed. She lived there until 2015, when the struggles of dementia made it too difficult to do so. Mum led a simple life and was devoted to her family. She was a woman of many talents and hobbies. She was a skilled seamstress, a knitter, a great cook, a crafter, a bridge player. Mum had a flair for fashion and interior decorating. If we needed an outfit sewn, a new set of curtains or cushion covers whipped up, or wanted something re-upholstered, she was happy to use her creativity and sense of style to help those of us less talented. She was also sporty, both as a participant and as a fan (she really had no choice after marrying Dad, a sports buff!). Dad introduced her to many activities including golf, curling, tennis and swimming. Summers were enjoyed at their West Hawk Lake trailer. In retirement, Mum and Dad loved having the time to spoil their grandchildren and they became loyal supporters of the kids' various sports. Mum also had a soft spot for dogs. Her 'grand-dogs' all knew where Grandma hid the treats! Our family extends sincere thanks to the staff at Misericordia Place for their outstanding care, patience, compassion and kindness. A special thank you to companion Erin S., who was a dear friend to Mil in her last months. Mil did not want a funeral service and we'll abide by her wishes. Should friends wish, donations in her memory could be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or a charity of choice. An amazing woman. I can remember the summer visits to the trailer at West Hawk with my mom Barbara Shearer Jones. Long talks and sage advice were always available. - Posted by: Deborah Jones (Great niece) on: Feb 18, 2018
